English

The term "earth" refers to the time of walking. The saying "do not use one garment for cleaning work" refers to the context of a warm room, and it is said that even some words of one person who dwells in anger are used by another. Therefore, monks wearing the same Dharma garment should not make each other work in the warm room. For all works, the abiding of the body exists, but not for all places. Because this ritual itself does not fully exist in the warm room, this is not a teaching. Regarding "do not let one who does not trust the body enter," the "that" refers to work. External works such as carrying loads are not prohibited. Regarding "this and the previous also teach that it is considered a person of faith," the term "teaching" refers to something that has existed for a long time and does not waver. The term "this" refers to the ritual just mentioned. The term "previous also" refers to the saying that a person who is not of faith should not be allowed to enter here. The term "consider" means to manifestly consider. The saying "do not serve a fox like a lion" means that one who has discipline should not be close to one who has broken discipline. To clarify this, even teachers and abbots should especially serve those who have broken discipline. The saying "parents and patients, even if they are householders" means that because it is especially beneficial to these people, it is allowed in advance. The saying "wash with a well-prepared bath" refers to what is desired from the basic text. The words of the patient are not mentioned because they are not consistent with other situations, and because there is no complete distinction, everything is decided by them, and a careful examination is made. To show its own nature, it is mentioned that bathing with the roots, stems, leaves, flowers, and fruits of wind-drawing grass is its name. This is the meaning of "wash with a well-prepared bath." Essence is the meaning of bathing. Therefore, these are branches here. If asked how to bathe, the answer is: after massaging, because it is not rough. Therefore, it is mentioned to clean with lentil flour.

English

The meaning of 'not rough' is that after applying and massaging with oil, etc., in order to separate from it, apply and massage with lentil flour, that is the meaning. To separate from it, wipe with a bath towel. 'For the sake of the former, pour two or three drops of oil into the latter water pot' means that for the sake of the former, two or three drops of oil should be poured into the water pot containing flour in the non-rough liquor itself. Bathe in an iron container. That should be held by the patient. 'That' refers to the iron container. It is not appropriate for a non-patient to hold it, just as there is no need for an iron plow, this should be understood. To do such things meaninglessly is arrogance, and that is because all things are done wrongly, so it is not said briefly. Cover it with a lid to completely remove the cold substances from the warm water. There, put in the neck support with a pillow and mattress and combine them. Here, bathing is for the sake of being unobstructed and without suffering, therefore grasp this. Do not wash your feet arbitrarily, this refers to the situation of the temple. Its location is in Vaka, which refers to washing the feet. Here, the scripture is spoken by the Bhagavan, 'Wash your feet in Vaka.' Make the basis for washing the feet, without this, the accomplishment of purposes such as Vaka would be completely lost, therefore, this is sometimes done and sometimes not done, in order to correctly show this, the word 'to do' is added first. The Sangha's belongings are the location of this, the Sangha's belongings cannot be for just one person, therefore it is a plural word. In which direction? Therefore it is said, in the southeast corner above the temple. What kind of shape? Therefore it is said, rough like the shape of a turtle. The meaning here is to remove dirt. Place the copper basin made of earth, the name of this is 'falling and grasping.' What is it made of? It is made of earth.

It is said about the earth. Here, the scriptures say not to place bowls made of gold, silver, beryl, and crystal nearby, but to place things of an earthy nature. What is the shape like? Therefore, it is said to be like the sole of an elephant's foot and to have a core. The meaning here is that it will not collapse. Having a core means that this is done for the purpose of placing clean feet. Where is the core placed? If you want to know if it has a core, it is said to be in the middle. What is the shape like? Therefore, it is said to be rough like a kadamba flower. It is rough so that the feet do not slip. After washing, place it upside down. Washing is for the sake of being without dirt, and being without dirt is being free from dirt. For this, know that wherever clean water exists, practice there, and not with other water. Here, the scriptures say that after washing both feet, pour the water from washing the feet outside the temple or in a vākhā, and then wash again. Where should it be placed? Therefore, it is said that for the sangha it is on the roof, and for the individual it is next to the doorframe of the dwelling. In which direction of the temple, where the cleaning of the bowl and so on has been done, smear with water. Or anoint. It is like the shape of a spear tip, or like the shape of an earthenware drum. It is said that such a shape is implied. What is used to anoint? It is said to be cow dung or mud. There is no specific rule for anointing for the sake of the Three Jewels. Without a bowl, one should not ordain or receive full ordination. Nor should it be small, large, or gray. There are three types of bowls: large, medium, and small. In order to determine their size, from the edge of the mouth to the belly of the thumb, the remaining portion should be able to hold a cooked Magadha small measure of rice porridge, with beans and vegetables, from the remainder up to a ḍo, which is appropriate.
