After arranging it, those monks did not sit on it. The Blessed One said, "One should think that all conditioned things are impermanent, and then sit on it and teach the Dharma." After arranging it in the house, decorating it with gold and silver, hanging bells, and laying out splendid clothes, one should know that these belong to the householders. However, the meaning of the word 'also' is that because of contemplating the danger of impermanence, one should sit down. In order to follow the phrase 'one should sit down,' one should know that 'contemplation' means 'one should know that these belong to the householders.' Here, the scripture refers to Brahmins and faithful laypeople arranging in their homes things decorated with gold, hanging golden bells, laying out splendid clothes, etc. The monks do not sit on them. The Blessed One said, "One should think that all conditioned things are impermanent, and then enjoy the Dharma that is given by the donors." For things decorated with jewels and adorned with gold and silver, it should also be the same. 'For' refers to that lion throne. Sitting on such clothes, one should contemplate that this is the danger of impermanence. Like this, the ritual of the lion throne is not complete, and in reality, there is no special scriptural basis for this detail. In order to explain this, this sutra was spoken. 'Those that should be completed' refers to those kinds of clothes arranged on the lion throne. If there are no laypeople and novices, then for the Buddha image, those who abide with the concept of the teacher, in terms of the meaning that accords with the Dharma, there is nothing inappropriate in touching it. Here, jewels are also considered to be Buddha images. 'For its substance' refers to the substance and ornaments, etc., of the Buddha image. 'Do not wear ornaments,' here the scripture means that therefore, a monk should not wear ornaments and anklets. If worn, it will be a serious offense. Similarly, one should not wear five-colored mantra threads. If worn, it will be a serious offense.

It is said in between. Wearing ornaments, all these ornaments are just examples, it doesn't mean that all of these must be worn, this is to illustrate this point. This is not inherently sinful, therefore, in order to protect it, one should know that one should not make this kind of five-colored thread amulet. From the subtle point of view, because things like these are allowed here, so this is quoted at the end. It is said in the scriptures that even mothers or Shravakas should abandon them. Regarding the wearing of ornaments, if asked what kind of ornaments should be worn? Therefore, it is said that one should not wear them, meaning that it is not appropriate to wear them. If asked what kind of nature it is made of? Therefore, it is said that it is made of meteoric iron or copper or brass or amber or conch nodes or wood or stone or earth or coral or horn, etc. The scripture here is, some scriptures say that monks should not wear ornaments made of gold, silver, lapis lazuli and crystal, etc. Nor should one wear rings. However, here it says that there are five types of ornaments, namely those made of brass, those made of copper, those made of amber, those made of coral, and those made of horn. Other places say that monks should wear ornaments made of gold. However, the scriptures say that eight kinds of ornaments should be worn, namely ornaments made of meteoric iron, copper, brass, amber, conch nodes, wood, stone and earth. Among them, using jewels as examples of materials other than these is a summary statement. The symbol is that the Sangha's symbol is a Dharma wheel in the middle, deer on both sides, and the name of the monastery owner written below. The personal symbol is a skeleton of bones or a skull. One should not comb one's hair with a comb, because this is an object of enjoyment, so this form enters into the form of an object, and the object mentioned here also includes this. The so-called "that is an example" means that the comb is an example used to prove other things, meaning that because one combs one's hair, one should not comb one's head. One should not look at one's face in a mirror.
