Depending on this, here it should be known that all forms are expressed by the trunk itself. For the roots and fruits, this is not non-existent. Therefore, these are not uncontained by it. For various different forms, it exists in the stems and branches. Also in the buds and tips. The fruits that arise from that, appearing as one and relying on it, this is because the seed facing one direction is destroyed, not that the seed is destroyed. Therefore, even if one aspect of the seed is destroyed, it is still the entity, not that all is destroyed. In combination, what is called "offenses" is, if asked by what number that should be destroyed again, are these different or the same? Therefore, for this, from each strike, it is different, but not from the thing itself, so it is said. "For this" refers to the combination. "That" refers to the strike. For each strike, it is different, but not from the thing being different. As many strikes as there are, that is the meaning of becoming that many combinations. Even if it is destined to produce after being taken out, but it is ultimately the end, this refers to trees and the like being taken out from their own place, that is ultimately the end, even if it has the nature of being able to grow, but it arises from destruction, at that time it is the meaning of arising from destruction. Even if there exists the nature of not being able to grow, but when expressed separately in the previous form, there is a difference between not approaching and becoming rotten, this is knowing. For the nature of being able to grow, even if it is destined to exist in obtaining, but there is no difference of becoming rotten, this is certain absorption. Therefore, this sutra was made here. "Fish traps and fish baskets taken out of the water are just like that," meaning that fish traps and fish baskets taken out of the water are just like that. Taking these out of the water and then grasping it, at that time it is called cutting off. At that time, these acknowledge decay. For those that are put back in again, following in the same way, that also because of following the seed core, for the fish traps and fish baskets, for those that grow on the water without contact, these were spoken.

Oh! If one swallows an unchewed fruit pit whole, it is a half-offense. An unchewed fruit pit means something that has not been broken into pieces by the teeth. If one swallows it whole, that is, eats it, the mention of the word "half" indicates that it is a minor offense. The word "half" indicates a minor offense that can cut off all downfalls. Here, the scripture says: If a monk swallows an unchewed amalaka fruit pit whole, what offense does he commit? Answer: A minor offense. This is like not chewing the fruit pit, causing it to be damaged, and swallowing it whole, like putting something into the stomach. Here, it refers to doing it intentionally, not to the meaning of damage. Damage related to the stomach should not be established as a downfall here, because whatever arises from the intention of damage, that is the root downfall, and it should be understood in this way. If one says, "It would be good if this were cut down," that refers to "cut down, oh." "Cut down, oh" refers to being connected to "half of cut down." The statement "It would be good if this were cut down," if one says this and cuts it down, that means it is a fundamental, bounded minor offense. Here, the scripture says: A monk says, "It would be good if this tree were cut down," and cuts it down, what offense does he commit? Answer: A minor offense. If it is by magical power, then it is not done. This means that it is merely an illusion, not actually done. Here, the scripture says: If a monk cuts down a tree by magical power, what offense does he commit? Answer: Those nearby have no downfall. If one mistakes a seed for another seed, that is similar to that. Mistaking the root seed, etc., for the trunk seed, that is similar to that, not half. The fault here is the same, like killing, this is not the meaning of blame. For birth, this ritual also exists.
