Regarding the meaning of the Three Jewels, it means that there is no fault in doing this. The meaning of "do not mortgage" is: the mortgage itself is the mortgage. If it is not so, I will give this away as alms. Giving away the item called a mortgage is how it is done. Here, the scriptures refer to the six groups of monks who mortgaged needles, sewing kits, and bowls, etc. Then, the Blessed One taught: A monk should not mortgage needles or sewing kits. If a monk mortgages needles or sewing kits, he will commit a serious offense. The property of the Sangha, for the purpose of increasing it, is entrusted to the Sangha's stewards. Here, "property" refers to the property of the Sangha. "For the purpose of increasing it" means that through actions such as purchasing, one obtains benefits for the Sangha, etc. Whatever it is, the property should be handed over. Should one hand it over oneself? No, therefore it is said to entrust it to the Sangha's stewards. For matters such as making agreements, after handing over the property, one should investigate. This should be said: Without the permission of the elders, do not strive for the sake of the Sangha. One should be diligent about the written agreement, such as how much was handed over at a certain time, etc. Whatever is written and agreed upon for handing over, it should be said like this. Similarly, for property, at what value it was purchased, and at what value it was sold, etc., after handing it over, one should investigate later. This is the precept regarding buying and selling. If there is a ritual for wearing unblessed Dharma robes, as well as following for ten days, etc., and other first days, etc., if these are in the bowl, and the scriptures regarding oneself, etc., are spoken in reference to having clothes oneself. In the place where it should be said, here one should add "of the bowl," therefore it is said "of the bowl," and it should be connected with "unblessed." The relationship between a place and having a place is the sixth type, which is the relationship with the bowl.

Therefore, here the bowl is referred to as "for oneself." Therefore, the word "robe" should not be understood as having a different meaning from this (bowl). The so-called "ultimate measure that covers the three wheels" is impossible, so it is excluded. Thus, here this sutra appears, namely "if there is," and "one's own," and "the one who follows for ten days," and "on the first day of another, the bowl is not blessed," and "there is blessing," here, from the moment of not being blessed, until the word "other," these have already been said in the previous occasion of abandoning wearing robes. The so-called "for the meaning of the ordained, it is determined as abandonment," means: whoever, for the ordained, holds and determines the bowl for a certain meaning, that is abandonment, therefore, even if holding, it will not become abandonment. The so-called "gray, white, and large are not suitable," means: because they are not suitable, these should not be blessed, therefore, the downfall is shown to the slanderer. The so-called "undyed is also small," in order to follow "not suitable," the word "also" is spoken. The so-called "undyed" is very unsuitable for the use of the bowl. Therefore, even if it turns black, this is not suitable. Here, the commentary on gray says: if one holds an undyed bowl, one commits a misdeed. If one holds a white bowl, one commits a misdeed. Here, for gray and large, there is no downfall. Is there a small bowl? Is there a large bowl? If it becomes a gray bowl, it is said like this. If one holds it with the intention of using it as a medicine bowl, it is said that there is no downfall, but for the use of the bowl, these should not be held. For this, if one blesses what is unsuitable, and holds it for the purpose of fully enjoying food, one commits a misdeed, but for others there is no downfall, one should understand it as such a distinction. For one small bowl,

Saying "there is no fault" means that there is no fault in carrying a small bowl. Because it is said, "When the bowl is small, one should go on a journey," so this refers to carrying a large bowl. This is about abandoning the carrying of a bowl. Do not be too attached, here, the scripture is the basis of the dwelling. The so-called requisites, the first two are the basis of clothing. Do not be too attached to the requisites, it should be connected with "do not". Know that it is connected with "one's own". Requisites are Dharma robes and so on. Do not hold on to what you are attached to, the so-called attachment is excessive attachment. To what, that is, things that arise from the bowl, etc., do not hold, that is the meaning. Even if there is no bowl, one should beg, this means that the fault of begging because of having a bowl will not occur. Referring to the permission to receive Dharma robes, here also has the word "also". If there is nothing, but you want to search everywhere for a bowl, will it be a fault to be fully equipped in this way? Therefore, it is said, "When there is," which refers to that bowl. For others, there is no falling, because it is the place of falling, so this ritual must be completed. If there is something, what will happen? Therefore, it is said, "From four pieces of cloth or less, those are all acceptable, and can be fully used," meaning that from four pieces of cloth or less, by virtue of ability, starting with these pieces of cloth, like this, until the bowl can be fully used. Even if it is slightly undamaged, it is because it is very soft, and because the land itself is very flat, it can be fully used, in order to avoid this situation, it is specifically said that "it can be fully used." If you have a bowl, what will happen if you overuse it? Therefore, it is said, "Begging from non-relative householders and searching everywhere," meaning begging from non-relative householders and searching everywhere. These two also apply to the following two.
