Furthermore, if from the perspective of differentiation, a bhikkhu begs from house to house within a layperson's home, and upon taking it, commits a misdeed, it is an expiable offense. In order to obtain the preliminary action, the previous training rule is stated, and in order to obtain the actual action, what is to be begged, which is related to both, is mentioned here. It is not that one can obtain and hold it merely by the act of begging, and also because of the relationship between what is to be begged and the training, it is related to this training rule. Otherwise, if it is said that it is not to be begged because it was obtained without enjoying the actual action, then that is related to the previous training rule, and the act of begging is related to the training rule here. The nature of what will be explained as "a pair of things to be begged" should be explained, that is, the size of a layperson's upper garment is a large piece of cloth twelve cubits long. The lower skirt is seven pieces of cloth plus a waistband. Here, it is said that the reason for wanting to clearly explain the size of a bhikkhu's upper garment is definite. Therefore, it should be understood that the three things here refer to size. The size of a bhikkhu, that is, the order of the robe and skirt as previously stated. Here, size is used as a comparison. "A pair of things to be begged" refers to the pair of upper and lower garments, and of these pairs of laypeople and bhikkhus, which is the thing to be begged? Therefore, either one is acceptable, meaning the layperson's upper and lower garments, or the bhikkhu's upper and lower garments. It should be understood through implication, and it should be stated directly that anything exceeding that size is not a thing to be begged, whether it is separate or not, one cannot beg for more than the size. Before that, one has already fallen from the training rule. Here, if the main thing is to explain the size of the pair, rather than what is intended to be explained, it becomes related to only one. Thus, for separate cases, if a small one is obtained, it must be taken to complete it. That is the layperson's upper and lower garments.

It should be said that it exceeds the limit, and it is not appropriate to beg beyond that limit. If it is less than before, then supplementing it is also not appropriate to beg. In order to follow what is not appropriate to beg, the word "also" is used. The previous meaning is that if one obtains non-standard householder's upper and lower garments, then supplementing that is not appropriate to beg. The so-called "the size of a householder is twelve cubits" means that for the most excellent, the size of the householder's upper and lower garments is prescribed. Therefore, everything smaller than this is actually not absent for the householder's upper and lower garments. Again, what is the ultimate reason for this? A large piece of cloth twelve cubits, a small piece of cloth seven cubits, and from Dopa downwards to a large piece of cloth three and a half cubits, up to between half and one-fifth, and the size of a small piece of cloth covering three circles, it should be known that this is the limit of smallness. Because this meaning is accomplished, not accepting itself is the reason. Here, in order to obtain the ultimate meaning, the ultimate householder's upper and lower garments, supplementing twelve cubits and so on, this shows that it is not appropriate to beg. It should be known that for those who have reached the limit, if they obtain non-standard items, then only acceptance is appropriate. If one wants to hold uncut Dharma robes, then what remains, wanting householder's upper and lower garments, for this non-standard, even if it is complete, it is not, for this incomplete, it is not appropriate to beg. The so-called "the remainder is not to be given away" means that no matter how excellent, it is only for the bhikkhu's upper and lower garments that are completely perfect, and not below that. The so-called "if the latter is obtained, then the remainder should be given away" means that if a bhikkhu begs for things including upper and lower garments, if he obtains something that exceeds the limit, then it should be given to that donor, because it exceeds the meaning of completeness. For the purpose of complete enjoyment, those who want single items, etc., should know that they are distinguished here. For the case of loss, a non-relative bhikkhu.
