The joint combinations with five branches that will be explained below mean that any of those (branches) should be fully possessed, and that is the intention. Even so, as it is said, the other five dharmas are also fully possessed, and here, saying "these and these others" is not to be understood as an ellipsis, but rather temporarily saying "these also do," which is a separate understanding of "these are also done by any other one." Why is this said? Because all five of these are absent, that is for others. For the first five, it is said that ten years itself is a branch, because "ordained as a monk and having completed ten years" means that completing ten years itself is stated as a branch. Therefore, this completion of ten years itself, with the words initially and finally holding all objects completely, is for the sake of the famous meaning. The Vinaya is the meaning itself abiding, and for those who have completed ten years, it is the cause for being an abbot, etc. If the remainder there becomes a distinction, having the distinction itself is a supreme ritual. If it is not so, then relying on just these is sufficient. Just as the distinction of learning itself, etc., is a transgression, similarly, abiding in the meaning of the Vinaya after completing ten years is not like that either. Now, those joint combinations are to be spoken of: being able to do or cause to do attending to the sick, eliminating remorse, abandoning the aspect of the views of sinful ones, abandoning displeasure with the dwelling place, etc. The words of the ability to eliminate remorse show abiding in the meaning of the Vinaya. The phrase abandoning the aspect of the views of sinful ones is about being skilled in Abhidharma. With the words abandoning displeasure with the dwelling place there, it is also about thinking and knowing itself and holding language itself. Here, with the sound of causing to do, it is not saying that one cannot do it, and it should be known that it is not like that. However, due to the sake of the one to be tamed, it should be known that there exists the closeness of the ability to cause others to enter and be able to act. Therefore, here, regarding the meaning of causing to do, which should not be excessive.

Remaining in the Vinaya, it is not that one does not transcend exceedingly. Above the level of learning, it is not the fifth, but is combined with being endowed with morality and great learning. Regarding what is called the level of learning and non-learning, beyond this, whatever is spoken of simultaneously as not being the fifth, such as the combinations other than faith and morality, etc., should be understood as being combined with being endowed with morality and great learning, etc. Being endowed with morality and great learning, etc., is the fifth. Here, being endowed with morality is special because it is not proper to dwell with those who have broken their vows; it should be understood as thinking about what is good. Again, great learning refers to that which is combined with holding the scriptures, and its incompatible opposite, such as the leaders of other sects, etc., and the parts of things, words, speech, etc., and the accumulation of verses, etc., and jokes and past events, etc., whoever does not have direct knowledge of these, should be understood as holding the scriptures. What is called direct knowledge of the scriptures refers to the Sutra Pitaka, the Vinaya Pitaka, and the Abhidhamma Pitaka, combined with being endowed with morality and great learning, it is the fifth. It is said in the Vinaya: "The holder of the Sutra Pitaka, the holder of the Vinaya Pitaka, and the holder of the Abhidhamma Pitaka." "Clear in the Sutra Pitaka, clear in the Vinaya Pitaka, and clear in the Abhidhamma Pitaka." "Skilled in the Sutra Pitaka, skilled in the Vinaya Pitaka, and skilled in the Abhidhamma Pitaka." "Knowledgeable in the Sutra Pitaka, skilled in the Vinaya Pitaka, and skilled in the Abhidhamma Pitaka." "Knowledgeable in the Sutra Pitaka, knowledgeable in the Vinaya Pitaka, and knowledgeable in the Abhidhamma Pitaka." Among these, holding without forgetting the Sutra Pitaka, etc., is holding. These are the three pitakas, dwelling in one place, dwelling mixed with seeing. Whoever is able to completely discern what is not mixed in this way of dwelling, this is skill. Combining the Sutra Pitaka, etc., with scripture and reasoning, this is knowledge. Whoever is able to show others by combining in this way, this is clarity. Unforgetfulness and
