These are statements in the manner of "I will not give this." Therefore, because a grave offense was spoken, knowing that one has fallen, it is briefly stated that a transgression has been committed. Because this is not definite, nor is it an expression, reproach is strongly applied here. This is the occasion for requesting mediation. Abandoning from giving, because giving is a grave offense. The so-called "abandoning from giving" refers to what was previously given, but later abandoned, saying "I did not give this daughter," and violating it. That is, having given it, and then meeting again for the sake of giving, it is a grave offense. The so-called "manifesting the heap of Dharma and calling" refers to the fact that for the sake of offering food to the Sangha, etc., for the sake of the heap of Dharma, for the sake of alms, a woman calls another person with words ordering a man, and that person meeting is a grave offense. Here, the sutra says: Holy one, so-and-so householder, can you say, "Come here for a moment"? He said: If you are making offerings to the Sangha, you can, and call him there. He continuously gave, and that bhikshu prepared the offerings and called that householder, and after the two met, that bhikshu felt remorse, and the Bhagavan taught: It will become a grave offense. The so-called "because it has other meanings," the word "also" is to follow after "if calling." The meaning other than the heap of Dharma is "This is your family woman, and this person must also protect all meanings," etc., considering closely and calling, meeting is the meaning of a grave offense. Here, the sutra says: Holy one belonging to the great nose, so-and-so person, can you say this? "This is your family woman, this is your person, you must protect all meanings, come here for a moment." He said he could, and then went. After speaking, the two met, the bhikshu felt remorse, and the Bhagavan taught: It will become a grave offense. The so-called "other" refers to striking sentient beings without fault, and it is not not superior, the sutra says

The phrase "do not strike by striking," or any similar words, if allowing the abuser to inflict harmless blows, this is not compassion for beings. Just as striking wood etc. constitutes a transgression, so too, striking beings with a harmless mind also constitutes the meaning of transgression. Striking beings with a harmless mind is considered a downfall. Regarding downfall, here is an example: A householder said to a woman, "Please give me an opportunity." She replied, "I am not free." The householder asked, "How am I to know when you will be free?" The woman said, "There is a monk in my house who approaches families; if he punches you in the back, that will be the signal." Then, when that monk entered that house, the woman said to him, "Venerable, can you punch the back of so-and-so householder?" The monk replied, "Yes, I can." Then he went and punched the back of that householder, and the householder said, "Venerable, excellent, excellent, the matter is accomplished!" The monk asked, "What is this?" The householder said, "It is the signal." That monk felt remorse, and the Blessed One declared, "This does not constitute a sanghavasesa offense, but it does constitute a misdeed." These are the Vinaya matters concerning mediators. Furthermore, "There is no fault for what is not a vessel for the four postures" means that not having fault is being without fault. For any of the four postures, if it is not a vessel, that is, a place unsuitable as a basis, there is no fault in doing such a thing. Due to fear, merely running, and with the mind filled with the thought of entering, so that all the limbs are stiff and unable to stand, for that situation, that place is a non-vessel. If one is able to sit, that place is a non-vessel for sleeping. Walking again and again is walking. Therefore, for these three, where there is no opportunity to traverse the usual path of walking, that is a non-vessel for walking. Unable to sit cross-legged.
