Please listen to me. The elder Light Increase is old and frail, or the monk Shariputra has wind disease. His robe is heavy and cannot be fully supported. If the elder Light Increase is old and frail, or the monk Shariputra has wind disease, I request the Sangha to allow him not to be separated from the robe. If the Sangha is ready and agrees, please allow the Sangha. The Sangha requests permission for the elder Light Increase, who is old and frail, or the monk Shariputra, who has wind disease, not to be separated from the robe. This is the announcement. The procedure is as follows: Please listen, venerable ones. The elder Light Increase is old and frail, or the monk Shariputra has wind disease. His robe is heavy and cannot be fully supported. The elder Light Increase is old and frail, or the monk Shariputra has wind disease, requesting the Sangha to allow him not to be separated from the robe. Therefore, if the Sangha allows the elder Light Increase, who is old and frail, or the monk Shariputra, who has wind disease, not to be separated from the robe, then those venerable ones who agree that the Sangha allows the elder Light Increase, who is old and frail, or the monk Shariputra, who has wind disease, not to be separated from the robe, please remain silent. Those who do not agree, please speak up. The Sangha has agreed and permitted, and the Sangha has permitted the elder Light Increase, who is old and frail, or the monk Shariputra, who has wind disease, not to be separated from the robe. Because no one objects, it is hereby recognized. This is the ritual and karma for granting permission not to be separated from the robe for the elderly or sick. From the perspective of abandoning what has been held for six years, if a monk makes a new seat, even if unwilling, it must be held for six years. If a monk abandons the old seat within six years, or even if he does not abandon it, and makes another new seat, the Sangha...

If it is not allowed by the Sangha, it is a Nissaggiya Pacittiya offense. The Sangha's permission refers to a Bhikshu who cannot use a seat for six years due to a hand disease, requesting permission from the Sangha to use a seat within six years, and the Sangha should grant him permission to use a seat within six years. A Bhikshu who cannot use a seat for six years due to a hand disease should request permission from the Sangha to use a seat within six years. The request should be made as follows: After arranging the dwelling, strike the bell, and admonish the Bhikshus with words of inquiry. After the entire Sangha has gathered and is in harmony, the Bhikshu with the hand disease should expose one shoulder, prostrate to the elders, squat at the end of the elders' seats, join his palms, and say the following: "Venerable Sangha, please listen to me. I, Bhikshu so-and-so, am unable to use a seat for six years, and therefore request permission from the Sangha to use a seat within six years. I beseech the compassionate Sangha, for the sake of compassion, to grant me, Bhikshu so-and-so, permission to use a seat within six years." Repeat this twice or three times. This is the request for permission to use a seat within six years. Those Bhikshus should not act arbitrarily out of trust or faith in the Bhikshu with the hand disease, but should have all Sangha members present, or send Bhikshus appointed by the Sangha, and have them place the seat before their eyes, or bring the seat to the center of the Sangha. If the seat is too long, they should cut it short. If it is too short, wool should be added. If it is too wide, they should cut it short. If it is too narrow, wool should be added. If it is torn or has holes, wool should be added. This is what should be done the first time. If it is completely broken, severely worn, and difficult to repair, then a Bhikshu should make a request before proceeding. It should be done as follows: Sit down.

It should be said thus. Venerable Sangha, please listen. The Bhikshu Lama named "This" should not use a cushion for six years. If the Bhikshu Lama named "This" requests permission from the Sangha to use a cushion within six years, if the time is right for the Sangha and it is permissible, please grant permission. The Sangha has requested permission for the Bhikshu Lama named "This" to use a cushion within six years. This is the request. The procedure is as follows: Venerable Sangha, please listen. The Bhikshu Lama named "This" should not use a cushion for six years. The Bhikshu Lama named "This" requests permission from the Sangha to use a cushion within six years. Therefore, if the Sangha grants permission to the Bhikshu Lama named "This" to use a cushion within six years, those venerable ones who can tolerate granting permission to the Bhikshu Lama named "This" to use a cushion within six years should remain silent. Those who cannot tolerate it, please speak. The Sangha has tolerated and granted permission, and the Sangha has granted permission to the Bhikshu Lama named "This" to use a cushion within six years. Thus, since no one speaks, it is taken as consent. This is the ritual and procedure for granting permission to a Bhikshu without a cushion to use a cushion within six years. From the section on abandoning the touching of gold and silver, again, regarding the saying, "If a Bhikshu takes gold and silver with his own hand, or causes others to take it, he commits an offense of expiation," thinking thus in his heart: "Alas, Brahmins and faithful patrons also give the price of clothes, and my Shravaka disciples also desire the price of necessities. I should allow my Shravaka disciples a few permissible things." Having thought thus, he commanded: "It should be accepted, and having accepted it, one should trust the patron and hold it." Furthermore, one should be happy to serve the Bhikshu. Furthermore, the Bhikshu should accept, and having accepted it, should bless it in front of the Bhikshu." Thus, he declared three permissible things, and made the patron believe that he was the master.
