If there are one, two, or many monks who follow the one who speaks differently, who is the companion of that monk. If they say to the monks, "Venerable ones, whether you are good or bad, do not say anything about this monk. Why? Venerable ones, this monk is a speaker of the Dharma, a speaker of the Vinaya. This monk has taken up and well grasped the Dharma and the Vinaya, and follows the nomenclature. This monk speaks knowingly, not unknowingly. Whatever this monk desires and endures, we also desire and endure." Then, the monks should first rebuke those monks. They should rebuke them thus: "Venerable Kokalika! Khanada Drabya! Kati Mora Kati Shya! Ocean-given! Knowing that those monks who are making a disturbance for the sake of dividing the harmonious Sangha, and who are taking up and well grasping the dispute that will cause division, do not be their companions, and do not follow the different views. Do not say to the monks, 'Venerable ones, whether you are good or bad, do not say anything about this monk. Why? Venerable ones, this monk is a speaker of the Dharma, a speaker of the Vinaya. This monk has taken up and well grasped the Dharma and the Vinaya, and follows the nomenclature. This monk speaks knowingly, not unknowingly. Whatever this monk desires and endures, we also desire and endure.' Why? Venerable ones, this monk is not a speaker of the Dharma, not a speaker of the Vinaya. Venerable ones, this monk is a speaker of what is not the Dharma, a speaker of what is not the Vinaya. This monk has taken up and well grasped what is not the Dharma and what is not the Vinaya, and follows the nomenclature. This monk speaks unknowingly, not knowingly. Venerable ones, do not desire and endure whatever this monk desires and endures. Venerable ones!"

You should not desire to divide the Sangha, but rather let the venerable ones desire the unity of the Sangha. Venerable ones, be in harmony with the Sangha. Do not divide the united Sangha, do not argue, be completely joyful, be one, with one recitation and become like water and milk mixed together. If you also make the Teacher's doctrine clear, you will abide in happiness. Venerable ones, abandon such behavior of following the division of the Sangha and speaking discordant words. This is the first thing to do. Even if the monks admonish and instruct them, they still stubbornly hold to their own views, clinging to the notion that "only this is true, and the others are false." If they label them in this way, they should be instructed with the four karmas. They should be instructed in this way: having prepared the dwelling place, struck the ghanta, and truthfully instructed the monks with words of inquiry. When all the Sangha is dwelling in harmony, one monk should make a motion and then act. This should be done as follows: having settled, one should say this: "Venerable Sangha, please listen. The monks Kokalika, Khanada Draba, Kati Mongkatiśya, and Ocean-given, knowing that a monk is acting harshly in order to divide the united Sangha, initiating and clinging to disputes that will lead to division, befriending them, and speaking discordant words, even if the monks admonish and instruct them, these Sanghas admonish and instruct them, they still stubbornly hold to their own views, clinging to the notion that 'only this is true, and the others are false.' If they label them in this way. If the Sangha deems it timely and permissible, then let the Sangha permit it. The Sangha says to the monks Kokalika, Khanada Draba, Kati Morakatiśya, and Ocean-given: Venerable ones, knowing that a monk is acting harshly in order to divide the united Sangha, initiating and clinging to disputes that will lead to division, do not befriend them, do not follow the behavior of speaking discordant words.

Stop. To the monks, say this: Venerable ones, whether you consider it good or bad, do not say anything to this monk. Why is that? Venerable ones, this monk is a speaker of the Dharma, a speaker of the Vinaya. Venerable ones, be in harmony with the Sangha. The Sangha is harmonious and undivided, universally joyful and without contention, supreme and unique. Giving is unique, like water and milk mixed together. If the Teacher's teachings are clarified, one will abide in happiness. Venerable ones, abandon such talk that follows the division of the Sangha and speaks of disharmony. He taught with a request and four karmas. This is the request. The karma should be done as follows: Venerable ones of the Sangha, please listen. Such as Kokalika, Khanada Draba, Kati Morka Tishya, and Sea-given, if a monk becomes harsh for the sake of dividing the harmony of the Sangha, and takes up and fully grasps the dispute that will lead to division, befriends them and speaks disharmoniously, even if the monks admonish these people, these people still insist and cling to that basis, and are attached to it.
