. Before dawn, at the first light of dawn, before sunrise, at sunrise, when the sun is one-eighth risen, when the sun is one-fourth risen, before noon, when one-fourth of the sun remains, when one-eighth of the sun remains, before sunset, at sunset, before the stars appear, when the stars have appeared. This is the description of the parts of day and night. After that, the seasons should be described. There are five seasons: the winter season, the spring season, the summer season, the short summer season, and the long summer season. Among these, the winter season is four months. The spring season is four months. The summer season is one month. The short summer season is one day and one night. The long summer season is one day and one night, which is less than three months. This is the description of the seasons. After that, the places should be described by a bhikṣuṇī practitioner. Listen, you who are called by this name. These three are the places for bhikṣuṇīs who have gone forth and been fully ordained, as declared by the Blessed One, the Tathāgata, the Arhat, the perfectly enlightened Buddha, who knows and sees. If one dwells in these places, one who has gone forth and been fully ordained in the well-spoken Dharma-Vinaya of the bhikṣuṇīs becomes a possession of the bhikṣuṇīs. What are the three? Even if one easily finds suitable things among clothes or in a rag-heap, if one dwells in such a place, one who has gone forth and been fully ordained in the well-spoken Dharma-Vinaya of the bhikṣuṇīs becomes a possession of the bhikṣuṇīs. You who are called by this name, are you content to live on clothes from a rag-heap for as long as you live? She should say, "I am content." If one finds extra things, such as silk, or a large piece of cloth, or cotton cloth, or silk, or Mun-dar, or a large piece of cotton cloth, or red cotton cloth, or a small piece of cotton, or red wool, or a small piece of cloth from Kashmir, or a suitable color, or an unsuitable color, or woolen cloth, or Sha-na cloth, or Zar-ma cloth, or cotton cloth, or Du-gu-la cloth, or Ko-ta-pa cloth, or sun-shade cloth, or any other suitable cloth that is found by the Saṅgha or an individual, you should take and use it sparingly. Do you pledge to such a place? She should say, "I pledge."

Listen, you who are called so-and-so. Among foods, it is easy to obtain and acceptable to live on alms. By abiding in this, ordination and full ordination in the Dharma-Vinaya well-spoken by the Bhikshuni will become the property of the Bhikshuni. You who are called so-and-so, are you willing to live on alms for as long as you live? She should say, "I am willing." If you can obtain something better, whether it is rice porridge, yogurt, noodles, five portions, eight portions, fourteen portions, fish, regular rotation, invitation to a feast, temporary invitation, pastries, or any other acceptable food, if you obtain it from the Sangha or an individual, you should also accept it and eat it in moderation. Do you vow to abide by such precepts? She should say, "I vow to abide." Listen, you who are called so-and-so. Among medicines, it is easy to obtain and acceptable to live on discarded excrement. By abiding in this, ordination and full ordination in the Dharma-Vinaya well-spoken by the Bhikshuni will become the property of the Bhikshuni. You who are called so-and-so, are you willing to live on discarded excrement as medicine for as long as you live? She should say, "I am willing." If you can obtain something better, whether it is ghee, oil, honey, molasses of brown sugar, seasonal, measured, usable within seven days, usable for life, root medicine, stem medicine, leaf medicine, fruit medicine, or any other acceptable medicine, if you obtain it from the Sangha or an individual, you should also accept it and use it in moderation. Do you vow to abide by such precepts? She should say, "I vow to abide." These are the statements about dwellings. Next, the Dharmas that lead to downfall will be stated. Listen, you who are called so-and-so. These eight are said by the Bhagavan, the Tathagata, the Arhat, the Perfectly Enlightened One, the Knower, the Seer, to be Dharmas that lead to the downfall of a Bhikshuni who has thus gone forth and received full ordination. If a Bhikshuni does these, she will immediately become unfit to be a Bhikshuni, unfit to be a Shramana, unfit to be a son of the Shakya, and will lose the status of a Bhikshuni, her practice as a Shramana.
