From this place of peace, whatever transgressions you have committed, and whatever transgressions I have committed, I will openly confess, repent, and not conceal them before those who are endowed with life. O you who are endowed with life, we, having renounced the world, have engaged in strife over the well-spoken Dharma and Vinaya. We have exposed each other's faults, argued, and quarreled, remaining in discord. We have not found concord in our own party or in the other party; we have not found it. We have found faults, but not virtues. Apart from the grave offenses spoken of by householders, from this basis, whatever transgressions you have committed and whatever transgressions I have committed, I confess, repent, and do not conceal them before those who are endowed with life. By confessing and repenting, I will abide in peace. If I do not confess and repent, I will not abide in peace. Repeat three times. Have you seen the transgressions? I have seen them. Will you guard against them in the future? I will guard against them. Repeat three times. The basis of disputes. Among the bases of dwelling places and the disputes of nearby bases, there are two matters of assigning dwelling places and food, two matters of distributing porridge and cakes, two matters of distributing trivial items, two matters of damaged utensils and clothing, summer cloth offerings and disputes, sending messengers and beautifying Dharma affairs. These ten and two persons are what the Teacher has truly declared. The chief of the hand and the officer of the hand, the staff and the net. You, who are called by this name, are you willing to assign dwelling places to the newly arrived monks? I am willing. Venerable Sangha, please listen.
