Even with something as small as a needle, one should initiate material exclusion for the Sangha. Take it and say with words, "Venerable monks, even with such a thing, it is permissible to perform exclusion for the Sangha of monks observing the summer retreat." After that, exclusion should be performed for the novices. After that, for the nuns. Having blessed and left, when performing exclusion there before, doing it together with them is indeed performing exclusion. It is not for women. It is also for those who have changed. If one is truly unable to stay, then the Sangha's exclusion should be understood for a monk who has become an object of practice. If one must leave due to business during the summer, then exclusion should be performed. Either leaving a basis, or leaving a person, or leaving both. They should be satisfied. One should promise to exclude everything that should be left. Venerable ones, we, the venerable ones, do not gather and stay for the sake of not leaving a basis, but as the Blessed One said, for the sake of purifying the discipline, he spoke of the recitation of vows, and for the sake of purifying the Dharma, he spoke of exclusion, so if you wish, perform exclusion. Some leave a person without leaving a basis, and some leave a basis and also leave a person. Having promised, leaving or denying leaving does not invalidate the promise. For him, there is not even a little of such a state as before or now. If one says so, it is a lie. If those who have promised to stay hear that monks who are fighting are coming, if the recitation of vows has passed two or three times, then exclusion should be performed. If it is not accomplished, then agreement should be reached with five or six members of the Sangha. Welcome with friendly words, receive the alms bowl and robes, appoint dwellings, courtyards, and multi-story buildings, bestow the benefits of bathing and giving towels, listen to the Dharma, give offerings, and do such things that are pleasing. If it is not one's own property, then the recitation of vows should be performed in the Sangha. If someone says, "Then did you not perform exclusion today?" The venerable ones should reply, "Please wait, you have arrived suddenly, this matter is done by those who have been staying here all along."

It should be stopped. It should be stopped in the holes. The basis of the prohibition. Without tolerance having been done by the inner and those with it, one should not make a prohibition. When it will arise in ten days or half a month, that is the time. Some teachers say that it is after seven or eight days. It is not in the Sangha. One should not do it without tolerance having been done by that. At that time, all the Sangha should not do it without having rejoiced with each other. One should not request goodness for scolding. A Bhikshuni should not request tolerance from a Bhikshu outside of the dwelling. One should not prostrate with both feet. If there is tolerance, one should prostrate and go. To the one who requests tolerance, a Bhikshu should not go having acted disrespectfully. One should not transgress. For what should be tolerated, the one who knows beforehand should cleanse with a line and insert a hook. If one does not want, one should not not strive for means. One should not stretch. One should not gather until one is separated from all entanglements. One should not be intolerant to the one who requests tolerance. The chapter on the basis of prohibition and related trivial matters, etc. The basis of prohibition is complete. One should spread out a firm Dharma garment. If one spreads out a firm Dharma garment in this way, then the three are thus, repeatedly eating, and gathering and eating, and going to the village without speaking, and there is no fault in begging for clothes, and those remaining and the gains become common. For those who have not vowed to stay for the summer retreat, and those whose summer retreat has been broken, and those who have vowed to stay for the later summer retreat, and those who have vowed to stay for the summer retreat elsewhere, that does not arise. It is also the same for those who stay in other places. If those themselves obtain it, it does not arise. Except for the last ones and those who stay in other places, a novice has the right to gains. One who has been expelled from the dwelling does not have the right to it. In the distinctions, going to those who are in accordance with the non-Dharma side is like obtaining it by that itself. At the end of the prohibition at the time of the main activity, the three Dharma garments are counted as the gains of clothing that are accomplished at the end of the day of spreading out that arises from the cause of summer. It is for the Sangha. Not having made a speech attack, and not having become unsteady, and not having become blurred, and not having become scattered. Having been turned over. Not having been completely used. Firm. Having a seam, and having a long strip, and having a patch, and having a part.
