When promising to observe the summer retreat, some may come suddenly, so arrangements should be made for residences and residence managers. If there are many people, then from one person to two people, etc., it should be spread to all. Do not demand lodging for the sake of staying one night. Do not demand monasteries for the sake of pursuing gain. Everything should be fully utilized. Some can do any of reading, reciting, meditating, and sewing. Some can place alms bowls and robes. Some can sleep at night. Some can be assigned to meditate in the morning, noon, and afternoon. Those who have promised to reside should repair the damaged and collapsed places of the residence. Bhikshunis observing the summer retreat should repair the summer retreat houses. In order to prevent quarrelsome people from obtaining residences, winter and spring residences that can be requested should also be provided. It should be designated by drawing lots. For example, the vicinity of monasteries and houses is also included. That of the corridor is also included. Do not put those things under the pit itself. Do not use tricks for the sake of residing naturally. Do not designate for the sake of future events. This refers to a certain time, day and night, and a certain part of it that will come. This refers to a certain Khenpo and Acharya who will come. This refers to a certain cohabitant and attendant who will come. It should be inspected separately twice a month. If one violates the vows and uses it, it should be reported to the manager of the dwelling or the Sangha, and it should be deprived. The Sangha should be informed that so-and-so benefactor, so-and-so attendant, so-and-so city resident, and so-and-so nurse have promised to reside here. Do not create regret, cause others to suffer, or create unpleasantness, eliminate these, create happiness and pleasantness, protect, and live purely like caring for the sick. By separately examining these sources, observe the dwelling, living place, food, and medicine offerings, and then promise to reside. It should be covered in front of the monks. Oil should not be applied in the monastery. It should also not be applied where there are no monks and no doors and windows. If the benefactor, attendant, city resident, and nurse exist, it should be informed. Without blessing, do not greet the dawn outside the boundary. For the sake of conforming to the Dharma, it should be blessed for seven days. For example, offering the Sangha's residence to monks, painting the monastery, providing dwellings, establishing firm precepts, painting stupas, sculpting Buddha images, erecting banners, making offerings, using pigments, sandalwood, and saffron for smearing, sewing clothes, eliminating sins and regrets, abandoning wrong views, accomplishing conformity with the right path, asking for forgiveness, performing four actions such as relocation, expelling, and helping patients breathe. Nuns should also be offered to satisfy them with heavy Dharma. Nuns should also be provided with the vows of abiding in celibacy and ordination. Śrāmaṇeras should also do so. Śrāmaṇerīs too.
