If, when consulting with monks who have become laypeople, one listens in order to hear, except if it is to calm them down. Hearing a sound is a minor offense, but in terms of meaning, it is a root offense. If one is engrossed in creating disturbances, and due to the influence of other reasons, after hearing and knowing, if one cannot understand due to the sounds of footsteps, bells, and coughing, then one will definitely incur a downfall, unless it is a mistake or one wants to be quiet. Do not quarrel, do not listen, do not walk around and sit down in order to do these things, do not strive for peace, do not fail to strive, do not fail to ignite. A downfall resulting from listening. If monks gathered for activities such as supplications leave without greeting, if they exceed the range of hearing, it is a root offense, and in front, it is a minor offense. Leaving without meaning and unreasonably, even after supplication, is also the case for matters that do not conform to the Dharma. If one wants not to exceed the range of hearing, there is no downfall. A downfall for leaving without greeting. For matters of instruction such as sitting, walking, dwelling, receiving monasteries, and speaking, if one is not respectful, even if one speaks in accordance with the Dharma, if one does not learn and instead contradicts, it is a downfall. For the downfall of the monastic community of monks, it is a root offense, and for the downfall of the Khenpo and Acharya, it is a minor offense. This is also the case for instructions that do not conform to the Dharma. Speaking idle talk is also the same. The name of the Sangha is its face. The Buddha is similar to the Sangha. Do not disturb the words of kings, Arhats, and elders of the Sangha. Committing a downfall in a disrespectful manner. Drinking things that cause intoxication. If it is boiled, it is lost from there. For grasslands and deep trunks, there is its entry. Fermented alcohol is half a portion. Roots, trunks, leaves, flowers, and fruits, etc., that cause intoxication are also the same. Drinks with intoxicating smells and tastes, even if they do not cause intoxication, are also the same. If only the color is similar to something that causes intoxication, there is no offense. Applying to the cheeks and wrapping the body is similar to union. For the sick, there is no downfall.

There is none. Drinking that which causes intoxication, one commits a downfall. Knowing is the main thing. It is at an inappropriate time. It is for not speaking to the residing monks. It is for entering the city. If the act of deception has not occurred. Wandering elsewhere is a misdeed. If there is no monk here, then the nun is the same. That is either a novice. That is either a nun. That is either a female novice. The sign of not meeting is non-existent. Those who dwell in other boundaries, and those who are expelled from dwelling, and those who are in accordance with the direction of others, are also the same. There is no downfall through magical power. Going at the wrong time is a downfall. Going to the four houses and so on at the wrong time. By that word, inviting the Sangha is to admonish the patron, saying: We should not interrupt the distribution because of the future, and it is also the same for walking in the third place and so on. Walking in the city is a downfall. Knowing is the main thing. It is when it is not dawn. Here, it is when the last ray of dawn has not yet risen. It is related to the place where the queen's entourage resides. At that time, it is also inappropriate. Every night. Showing its door and the two edges of the vicinity are its beginning. The royal palace and the city are the same. It is also the same in the place of the royal palace. In the city, it is a misdeed. If that is its meaning. Here, the mouth of another person is higher than that. If it is not because of the king and the queen and the youth and the minister and the obstacle and the taming. Without stopping, one should not enter the royal palace. Entering the royal palace at night is a downfall. When reciting the Pratimoksha Sutra, having experienced it twice and not being confused, saying that I now know that this Dharma exists here, that is it. When reciting at other times, there are two misdeeds for the common ones. It is also the same when speaking of those who have the Sutra Pitaka. There is no downfall for the uncommon. When reciting the Pratimoksha Sutra, listening without respect, attending closely, causing regret. Disrespecting the objects of the training ground is a downfall. Breaking or causing to break teeth, bones, and horn needles.
