If it is divided, if the items are complete, it becomes a root offense. If the items are incomplete, it becomes a gross offense. If you steal something you borrowed and deny it, what happens? It becomes a gross offense. When does it become a root offense? When the division is completed, if the items are complete, it becomes a root offense. If it is incomplete, it becomes a gross offense. Venerable, if a monk places a deposited item there, and then denies it, what happens? It becomes a gross offense. When does it become a root offense? When the division is completed, if the items are complete, it becomes a root offense. If the items are incomplete, it becomes a gross offense. If you divide it first and then move the location later, if the items are complete, it becomes a gross offense. However, if you move it from the original location first and then divide it later, if the items are complete, it becomes a root offense. If the items are incomplete, it becomes a gross offense. Venerable, the Blessed One said that if a monk steals five mashakas, it becomes a root offense. Is there a case where a monk steals very, very many things but it does not become a root offense? Yes, if many people steal, or if they steal together with a few people, it becomes a gross offense. Venerable, if a Dharma robe is placed in a dark place, what happens if four monks steal it? The Buddha said it becomes a gross offense. When does it become a root offense? When it is divided into four parts, and if the items in each share are complete, it becomes a root offense. If the items are incomplete, it becomes a gross offense. This is the summary: Stealing grain with knowledge, small fruits and destroyed objects, long letters and epistles elephants, likewise observation and contempt, loans and deposited items, many people and, stealing related to darkness, this summary is different. Among them, someone's utensils, do you know this and that, etc., among them, someone's means it is not specific. Utensils this and that, refers to the bowl and Dharma robe, etc., saying it twice is just repetition. Bring it, means bring it here. Stealing is to make the owner of the property lose ownership, not just temporarily.

It is a synonym for "all of all." Similar calculations are that if there is a stealing mind, one acts on it, and for those things that should be acted upon, the similar downfall lies in stealing for one's own benefit, and if one instigates stealing, both will fail, that is its meaning. Here it says there is no downfall, such as "This is not his," the meaning of which is that the thought of the monk who truly steals is: "This is his, I am only hiding it elsewhere for his sake," that is his thought. Therefore, he thinks that because there is no stealing mind, there is no downfall for stealing. For example, like the property of the Khenpo (preceptor), such as the alms bowl and Dharma robes, like the Acharya (teacher) and others who hide things elsewhere without a stealing mind, this person is also like that, that is its synonym. Things as they are, things themselves are things, five masha and so on are mountain things, that is its synonym. The "gTur bu" of the Dharma robe is the wine trough where the Dharma robe is placed. The container for the Dharma robe is the willow basket where the Dharma robe is placed. The "za ma tog" of the Dharma robe is a special container where the Dharma robe can be placed, a round container made from the tip of a reed, thin and soft stems, etc. The stake is a peg for hanging Dharma robes and so on, like an elephant tusk, fixed to the wall, that is its synonym. To separate is to do separately. If it becomes a grave offense, although it is hidden from the place, it is not a failure merely by moving it from here, because it arises from the intention to steal, not the thought of stealing, like opening flowers that one does not want to steal. Therefore, it should be known that all the chosen items are because they become a whole, and are the closest to being hidden from the place, so they form one view. If the intended thing is accomplished, then merely moving it from the place is a failure. It is said: "For that choice, there is one grave offense. For choosing items for the sake of stealing, it is another offense," some Vinaya holders do not think so, for example, choosing items for the sake of stealing the clothes of a bleacher.
