Furthermore, if someone says, "Go get that, steal that, move that from that place," and if he actually takes it with the intention of stealing, steals it, or moves it from that place, what will happen? It will be like committing a root downfall. If he thinks, "This is his," then taking it is not a downfall. Whoever instigates theft will be judged according to the nature of the object. Venerables, if a monk, with the intention of stealing, desires to steal people's robe needles, robe containers, robe sewing tools, and robes placed on racks, what will happen? He will commit a grave offense. After stealing what he desires, if the value is sufficient, he will commit a root downfall. If the value is insufficient, he will commit a grave offense. If he steals it together with the rack, what will happen? He will commit a grave offense. When will he commit a root downfall? When he takes it down from the rack. After taking it down from the rack, if the value is sufficient, he will commit a root downfall. If the value is insufficient, he will commit a grave offense. Venerables, if a monk breaks into a granary and steals grain, what will happen? If he steals it with one effort, its value should be calculated, and if the value is insufficient, he will commit a grave offense. Venerables, if monks shake or beat fruits from trees to steal them, what will happen? If one effort is enough to gather five mashakas' worth, he will commit a root downfall. If it is not enough, he will commit a grave offense. Venerables, if monks steal water, what will happen? From the source of the water to the end of the stream, its value should be calculated, and if the value is sufficient, he will commit a root downfall. If the value is insufficient, he will commit a grave offense. Venerables, if someone steals people's jewels, or what is considered jewels, or gold, what will happen? Its value should be calculated, and if the value is sufficient, he will commit a root downfall. If the value is insufficient, he will commit a grave offense. Venerables, if someone steals writing and sign language, as well as arithmetic, what will happen? Its value should be calculated, and if the value is sufficient, he will commit a root downfall. If the value is insufficient, he will commit a grave offense. Venerables, the Blessed One said that a monk's belongings

What does it mean to say that if something is moved from one place to another, it will eventually change? Is it the case that a monk tries to move a large object far away, but it does not change in the end? Yes, it is like this: if a monk holds one end of a large object and pulls it a long way, but the other end does not leave its original position, he commits a grave offense. Venerable monk, if a monk enters a householder's house and becomes like a family member, and acts as a messenger for that householder's relatives, what happens if the householder verbally sends a message saying, "Please give such and such thing"? He commits an offense that incurs a grave fault. Venerable monk, if a monk develops the intention to steal other people's elephants, he commits a grave offense. "Without being told, for the sake of others" means that without the other person's permission, one thinks that this is for the sake of others. Regarding "non-human beings" and so on, a minor offense is committed because it is a non-human being, and because one enters with the idea of it being non-human. Some people here recite and explain that this is a grave offense. Some Vinaya holders disagree, because if one steals from non-human beings with the idea that they are possessed by human beings, one commits a grave offense, because they are not possessed by human beings. Similarly, if one steals with the idea that they are possessed by non-human beings, one commits a minor offense, because there is no idea that they are possessed by human beings. If the quantity is insufficient, it is a minor offense, because there are no five mashakas, etc. If one steals a sufficient quantity of something with the idea that it is not possessed by human beings, one commits a minor offense, because it is neither possessed by human beings nor is there such an idea. For insufficient quantities, it is a minor offense, because there are no ten mashakas, etc. Therefore, if it is neither possessed by human beings nor is there such an idea, and a minor offense is established simply because of this, how can it be said to be a grave offense? Saying "it is not a human being" and so on does not contradict saying it is a grave offense, because in that case, it has not been separated from what is owned by humans.
