The Explanation of the Vinaya, a Branch of the Vinaya Agama, the Supreme One By Gelek Shenyen The Explanation of the Vinaya, a Branch of the Vinaya Agama, the Supreme One By Gelek Shenyen The Explanation of the Vinaya, a Branch of the Vinaya Agama, the Supreme One, is established. If so, then how is it that in the state of full ordination, merely by engaging in (sexual activity), in the state of a novice monk, not engaging in (sexual activity) becomes a transgression? To this, it should also be said that in the state of full ordination, by engaging in it, only in the state of a novice monk, it becomes one's own nature, and not engaging in (sexual activity) at that time will also accomplish the actual transgression, called an act of wrongdoing. If, in the state of full ordination, or from the state of a novice monk, one becomes a householder, then will a transgression occur in this case as well? The answer is no. Thus, when one changes from the state of a novice monk to the state of a householder, this previous state is lost, and therefore it becomes one's own nature. Even if it becomes one's own nature, there will be no transgression in the state of a householder. Therefore, because it has become one's own nature, the transgression in the state of a novice monk is also called an act of wrongdoing, and it should be understood as soliciting the fault of the action of the state of a fully ordained monk. If it is not so, the fault of the action of the state of a fully ordained monk, the transgression in the state of a novice monk should not be called an act of wrongdoing. Thus, it is a heavy transgression, because it is the action of a gross offense. Now this should be said: if, merely because of the action of the state of a householder, in the state of a novice monk, not performing the action of that time, it is said to solicit a transgression called an act of wrongdoing, then what kind of transgression would that become in the state of a householder? Similarly, merely because of the action of the state of a novice monk, in the state of a fully ordained monk, not performing the action of that time, it is said to solicit a heavy transgression called a gross offense, then what kind of transgression would that become in the state of a novice monk? Similarly, in the state of a fully ordained monk, not performing the action of that time,

If it is said that the act of incurring a heavy offense should be investigated, then what kind of downfall will the act lead to? Some say that, for the time being, it is impossible to investigate the downfall of doing such an act in the state of a householder, because there is no establishment of downfall for householders, and it is also said in the sutras that householders only generate many non-meritorious deeds. In the stage of a novice monk, it should be known as a very shameful offense, because for whoever is an offense, it is a shameful act. In the stage of a bhikkhu, if there is no act, it should also be known as only a gross offense, because this is an act of reality. This is not approved by other Vinaya holders, because for the actual offense in the later stages of novice monks, etc., the cause of the act of establishing the stage of householders, etc., and similarly, for the later stages of novice monks, etc., the cause of the act of establishing the stage of previous bhikkhus, etc., then, will this become an interruption of the act or an uninterrupted act? In this regard, if the act is cut off, then because there is no act, the actual situation will not be investigated at all, just like unintentional killing. Just as in the chapter "Preventing Suicide," if he says, "O long-lived one, do not kill yourself! Do not die! Do not separate from life!" But if he commits suicide, dies, and separates from life, then only the previous act, which leads to death, will become a gross offense. However, if the act is not cut off, then because there is an act, and the result of thinking is fully possessed, and the actual situation is fully possessed, then how can it be said to be shameful? If it is said that because there was no act at that time, then it would be too much. If a bhikkhu made an act to kill an enemy, even if ten or twenty years passed, and that enemy lost his life, then the act that happened to that bhikkhu at that time
