That is, recognizing it as one's own will only result in a transgression, that is its meaning. This is the determination of the abandonment of the two aspects. The term 'mat' here is taken to mean 'laid out'. Thus, what is called 'shown' refers to two types of mats: those with internal support and those that are laid out, and here it refers to the latter. 'Unwillingly' means without desire. 'Six years' means the duration of six years. This is a negation of the first five years, not the sixth. Therefore, it is said 'until' and so on. The meaning is that the five years prior to the sixth, which serves as a boundary. Thus, in the Vibhanga it is said: 'If a monk has the intention to make a mat, he should not make a second for the very first one, nor for the second, nor for the third, nor for the fourth, nor for the fifth. However, if he makes it in the sixth year, there is no downfall,' thus it is said that the sixth year itself is without downfall. Here, the meaning of the words transforms as follows: Suppose a monk first only lays out a mat, and later he himself does not want it, then at that time, if there is only the possibility of doing new work, then he should obtain permission to make another mat for the Sangha, and then make the mat. If it is not possible to do new work, then at that time, it is permissible to throw away that mat, but do not make another mat before six years. In the sixth year, there is no fault. The statement that a monk, etc., if the name changes, it is said to be a transgression, is because it relies on the unexamined side. 'Having attained' etc., refers to having attained six years etc., perceiving that six years etc. have been attained, and for that, it is said that there is no downfall. 'Perceiving that it has not been attained' means perceiving that it is five years or four years etc., and for that, it is said that there is a downfall. When asked, some say this: 'Is there any case where a monk making a mat within six years will not result in a downfall?' There is, if one falls within six years and then takes full ordination again and makes a mat, there is no downfall. It is said that it is the same even if one falls after abandoning it. Because it is interrupted by different circumstances in between, it is said that there is no downfall. This is the determination of the abandonment of the sixth year. Cushion

Know that these, as well as the offenses of downfall, are also related to sewing cushions. The term "new" is because it is a new item. For example, the so-called "new" has two kinds of "new": new because it is new, and new because it is obtained. In this sense, it is considered "new because it is new" because it indicates this with its own words. Is it the nature of the author, or is it obtained from others in front of oneself? The so-called "old cushion" and so on, if there is an old cushion here, then take about half a cubit or a fathom's worth from it, and then use it to repair it. If it is determined to be old, then there is no offense even if it is not repaired. As it is said, if the old cushion is completely unusable, or dilapidated, or damaged, and cannot be repaired, then there is no downfall. Then, why should it be repaired with the Sugata's span? It is explained with "new" and so on, saying that those who are proficient in discipline say that this is to make the new cushion more solid. That should be repaired in the middle of the cushion, and if it also becomes solid after repairing, then it will not be considered as despising the old cushion. The term "use" is a synonym for "physical close use." Regarding the Bhikshu and others being said to commit a minor offense due to naming, this belongs to the category of unchecked. The so-called "small" and so on, what is not suitable is the Sugata's span. The so-called "excess" is more than the Sugata's span, and if it is repaired with an impermissible amount, it will be a downfall, and if it is repaired more, there is no downfall, which is its synonym. This is the determination regarding cushions. What should be accepted is complete acceptance. The so-called "without carrying" is without carrying goods. The so-called "until the end of three ক্রোśas," the so-called "between" is a definite meaning, therefore it is a synonym for "only at the end of three ক্রোśas." What should be sent is what should be taken. The so-called "beyond that" is beyond those three ক্রোśas. The meaning here is: whether or not there are goods being carried, if wool is carried beyond three ক্রোśas, beyond the distance of a shout, it will be abandoned. If goods are being carried, then taking it from the beginning, carrying it oneself will result in other minor offenses.
