Being extremely ashamed is because it is the reason for shame, so the mind desires to completely abandon it. Shame is because of becoming ashamed, and there is not even the ability to look at other people's faces. The term "completely abandoning" refers to the mind completely abandoning the object of shame. The term "scolding" refers to scolding oneself after completely abandoning it. A place not pervaded by hell refers to a noble place. Digging out refers to the eyes. Cutting off refers to the flesh.

It is the time of meditation. The so-called good meaning is because it has the meaning of being completely non-inverted. The so-called good words and phrases are because they have the sound that can accomplish. Here, it is said that this has a particularly superior necessity, which is to say that it is said to be unmixed, etc. The so-called unmixed is because it can eliminate all suffering and does not depend on the Mahayana, so it is unmixed, it is pure conduct. The so-called complete is without hair, because it can accomplish all the fruits. The so-called completely pure is because it is free from the defilements of afflictions. The so-called completely purified is because it has abandoned the karma that arises again in existence. What is this called? For example, it is said to be entering the womb. The three words "Listen very well and keep it in mind" are for the purpose of separately connecting the differences in the listener's motivation. Some listeners are like containers with their mouths facing down, some are like containers with leaky bottoms, and some are like containers that are not clean. Water cannot enter a container with its mouth facing down, water can enter a leaky container but cannot stay, and water can enter and stay in an unclean container but cannot be drunk. Similarly, some people cannot enter the Dharma even if it is spoken to them, because they do not listen attentively. Some people can enter, but cannot stay, because they are forgetful. Some people can enter and remember, but they will cling to wrong views, because of the power of improper attention. Therefore, here, the Blessed One uses the analogy of a container with its mouth facing down, etc., to transform the monks from these three states of mind, and to connect them with the state of mind of a container with its mouth facing up, firm, and clean, which is "Remember well, remember very well, remember in your heart." The so-called listening well is because it is one-pointed. The so-called listening very well is because it is not forgetful. The so-called keeping it in mind is because proper attention can arise correctly. The so-called attachment refers to the manifest activity of pervasive craving.
