The formations of earth are of three kinds: past, future, and present, because they are different. Among them, the past is impermanent because it has already arisen and ceased. Moreover, it will not arise again, therefore it is subject to arising and ceasing. The future is the nature of arising, because it has the possibility of arising. The nature of arising and ceasing also has the possibility of destruction. Because it will not arise again, it is the nature of arising and ceasing. If it is said that the future is the nature of arising, then will they all arise together and not cease? The answer is: after arising, it will cease. That is to say, whatever has arisen will cease; whatever has not arisen will not cease either. If they are all only suffering, then how can there be happiness? The answer is: because the cause of future formations has been exhausted, and because they have not arisen, therefore it is the peace of quiescence. This is the summary of the verse. The meaning of the branch is that alas is sorrow, meaning to generate the sorrow that this is suffering. The sutras say: whatever is impermanent is suffering. The action of determining things is abandoning things, which is permanent. The opposite of this is impermanence, such as the moment, the short dwelling place, and destruction immediately after birth, and so on. Impermanence itself is the object of great compassion, not the meaning of being tormented by the suffering of suffering. Or it means that the Blessed One has compassion on the form of the object of formations that are counted as sentient beings, meaning to generate compassion that becomes the basis of benefit. The phenomenon arising from the collection is formation, which is the synonym of the five aggregates. Arising is appearing, and destruction is decaying. The two dharmas with the nature of not being taken away, whoever has them is subject to arising and ceasing, meaning that they will experience the state of arising and ceasing, such as aging, etc.

O son! For example, whatever inevitably ages is called having the nature of aging, and it is like that. Those that do not have the nature of arising are called 'unconditioned' because they are similar to that, just like pointing to an autumn cloud and saying 'water cloud.' The term 'having arisen' means the word for having obtained the present moment. And the particle 'gi' is to indicate that having arisen, they inevitably cease. For what reason is it said that having arisen, they cease? Ceasing means disappearing and passing away. Or, it could also be explained like this: If asked, why is it said to be impermanent, and why is it of the nature of arising and ceasing? Because what arises inevitably perishes, like a vase and so on. And the opposite of that is space. If these two happen simultaneously, that is, the moment of arising is the moment of ceasing, then the past and present would become the same fault. The answer is: The term 'having arisen, it will cease' refers to the word for changing from the present to the past. All of this is inherently suffering, because they are impermanent, and because happiness is impossible in dependence on others. If that is the case, then the path should also be suffering. The answer is: In the state of truth, the path is not suffering, because it is not inconsistent with the noble ones. In other cases, it is suffering, because it is said in the sutras: 'Whatever is impermanent is suffering.' For example, bitter drinks and so on are suffering, but because they are the cause of inner peace, they are taken as medicine and called happiness, and similarly, it should be said for the path and so on. The suffering of conditioning is pacified, the peace obtained through the peace realized by the wisdom that is particularly excellent. Cessation through individual analysis is happiness, because it is said in the sutras: 'The supreme happiness without aggregates.' The body is the physical form. The term 'incomparable person' means the word for having no friend and no second. The mind is firm and unwavering, and wherever the arrow is aimed, that is the one with a firm mind, that is, the Bhagavan.
