Acting in accordance with the proper manner. The phrase "like the teachings of the Teacher" means in accordance with the nature of the Sutra Pitaka, which teaches the Four Noble Truths. The phrase "to be tamed" means by means of application. The phrase "to be pacified" means by means of reality. The phrase "to be completely pacified" means by means of the conclusion. Distributing manifest rituals, not selecting mindfulness and non-intoxication, confessing transgressions, spreading grass, causing to seek that nature. Because of certainty, because that nature is absent, non-intoxication, self-confession, because of fully knowing one taste, all actions are included. The words of the Vinaya-vibhanga, the explanation of the words of the seven dharmas for pacifying disputes, composed by the teacher Duladeva, are completed. Now, by summarizing the Pratimoksha Sutra and through the gate of recitation, the Vinaya of the Seven Tathagatas will be taught. Among them, the disciples of the Bhagavan Tathagata Vipashyin were those whose faults were small, with attachment to the joy of Dharma, and those heretics who entered non-righteous Dharma. Since there was only manifest joy in harming, in order to completely abandon those faults, the Bhagavan recited this Pratimoksha Sutra in this way, summarizing it every half month. Patience is asceticism, patience is supreme, the Buddhas declare Nirvana to be supreme. A renunciate should not harm others, nor should he injure others; he is not a Shramana. This is what is said. Among these, patience means to be patient, that is, to accept the faults of others, or to have no hatred towards others. That itself is supreme asceticism, because it purifies the hatred of the mind and generates compassion. As for the Nirvana of patience, patience means to be patient, that is, in the realm of the truth of suffering, the truths of impermanence, suffering, emptiness, and selflessness, the wisdom of patience, the patience of knowing the Dharma in suffering. That which is sent forth beforehand, or the Nirvana shown by it, is the Nirvana of patience, the Nirvana attained by the unpolluted path. That is supreme, the Buddha says, that is, the Nirvana of patience.
