What should be done then? Therefore, it is necessary to combine what is to be practiced with the expression of means. What is to be practiced refers to the purpose for which one ordains and takes the full ordination as a śrāmaṇera, that is, "Venerable one, have you taken the full ordination?" What is the method for practicing that purpose? It is mindfulness. It is necessary to combine it with the expression of means, that is, "Practice!" "Practice mindfully" is the essence of mindfulness, which becomes a method for cultivating virtuous Dharma. Likewise, the Tathāgatas, Arhats, perfectly enlightened Buddhas, and other virtuous Dharmas similar to this, the aspects of enlightenment, are also attained through mindfulness. If there is no refuge, the firm intention of nirvāṇa cannot be accomplished; if there is no firm intention of nirvāṇa, the vows will not arise. Then, why is the word of taking refuge not recited here at the time of full ordination? At the time of full ordination, the firm intention of nirvāṇa can be understood only through the word "full ordination." For example, in "full ordination," "full" refers to nirvāṇa, which is free from all harm and complete with all perfections; the word "ordination" means closeness. Therefore, if one correctly takes the bhikṣu vows, approaching nirvāṇa with all intentions, that is full ordination. Therefore, here, with the intention of correctly taking the bhikṣu vows, the firm intention of nirvāṇa can be accomplished; with the firm intention of nirvāṇa, the vows will arise. Therefore, here at the time of full ordination, it is not necessary to recite the word of taking refuge. The extensive explanation of the ritual of full ordination for bhikṣus is complete. Now, the topic of dwelling will be discussed. That is, things that a resident should not do without asking the dwelling, and also the things that a resident does with the dwelling's alms bowl and Dharma robes.

Therefore, in the summary it says: Without asking for robes, bowls, offenses, etc., caring for the sick, repentance and views, coercive forgiveness and residence, joy and transforming ten ways.

Shinbu'o. "Defeated" means poverty. "Oral meaning" means expressing the oral meaning in two ways. "Specifically asking" means asking about doubts of forgotten meanings. "Without permission, all actions must not be done" means that the resident must not do anything without the permission of the residence. Having shown the generalities in this way, now, in order to specifically show the exceptions, it is said: Urinating and defecating, discarding toothpicks, drinking water, prostrating to stupas in temples including the vicinity, and walking from the temple to the extent of forty-nine bows (approximately equivalent to modern units of length), these are allowed, that is, the resident can do these things without permission. "Temples including the vicinity" means residing in the vicinity, and in that temple, whatever stupas are there, one can prostrate to them even without permission. Any passage in a temple where digging, cooking, eating, and other activities are prevalent should be considered the vicinity of that temple. Therefore, prostrating to the stupa there is allowed, this is a summary statement. Regarding "walking from the temple to the extent of forty-nine bows," temples should be understood as being of two types: those with walls and those without walls. If the temple has walls, then starting from outside the walls, one can walk to the extent of forty-nine bows. If the temple does not have walls, then one should start counting from the base of the temple walls. This is also shown for the purpose of taking a walk, but if it is for the purpose of prostrating to a stupa, one cannot walk without permission. If one is only walking for the sake of taking a walk and prostrates to a stupa on the way, then in that case, there will be no fault, this is a summary statement. Here it says, "The resident must not do anything without permission from the residence," "resident" refers to students and attendants. "To the residence" refers to Khenpos and Acharyas. "Without permission" means without asking. "Things" refers to cleaning, wiping, smearing, alms bowls, Dharma robes, and other tasks, these are not to be done. There are also two types of things, namely major things
