For one who wishes to be ordained, robes dyed in colors appropriate to the ordination ceremony should be given. "He should take it by touching both feet" means that the one who wishes to be ordained should also prostrate to the preceptor and take those robes. "After that, the preceptor should put them on" means that the preceptor himself should put those robes on the one who wishes to be ordained. "When putting them on, the preceptor should examine whether the one who wishes to be ordained is sexless, hermaphrodite, or an intersex person" means to completely abandon the faults of being a eunuch, a hermaphrodite, a sexless person, a dual-sexed person, or an intersex person, etc. "Sexless" means without sexual organs. "Hermaphrodite" means having both male and female sexual organs. "Intersex" means having the two paths of excrement and urine merged into one. "Examine without being noticed" means that the one who wishes to be ordained should not know, 'My genitals have been seen by the preceptor,' and should be examined in this way, but not by stripping naked. It is not necessary to examine the genitals only at the time of ordination. Like this, from the time the preceptor himself promises, 'I will ordain him,' until the time of putting on the lower garment, one should pay attention. It is not only the preceptor himself who must ascertain, but if he hears from a trustworthy monk that he has done that, it should be understood as having been done by the karma preceptor himself. "After that, ordination should be accomplished by beginning to take refuge" means that after knowing that the one who wishes to be ordained is free from faults such as being a eunuch, ordination should be accomplished after that. How should it be accomplished? By beginning to take refuge. The very first beginning of accomplishing ordination is beginning to take refuge. Thus it is taught: First, refuge should be given, and later he should be made to properly take ordination. "It should be said like this" means that the preceptor should have him repeat it. "The signs of a householder" means wearing white clothes and hair.

And keeping long beards, etc. The sign of being ordained means wearing kasaya robes and not keeping sideburns and long beards, etc. After that, it should be entrusted to a bhikshu who will help him attain the state of a novice monk, which means that the preceptor entrusts the person he has ordained to that bhikshu. The term 'who will help him attain the state of a novice monk' refers to the one who bestows the vows of a novice monk upon him. The one who possesses the nature of helping him attain the state of a novice monk is the one who helps him become a novice monk. The term 'bhikshu' refers to the bhikshu who has fully received ordination through the request and the four karmas. The term 'entrust' means to give. If asked whether he is pure, if he is pure, then by taking refuge and vowing to become a novice monk, he should be helped to attain the state of a novice monk, which means that this act of definitely helping him attain the state of a novice monk must be done. The term 'whether he is pure' means, does this person not have obstructing factors? The term 'after asking' means asking the bhikshu to whom he is entrusted. If he says, 'This person is pure,' then at that time, because that person is pure, he should be helped to attain the state of a novice monk through the ritual of taking refuge and vowing to become a novice monk, which will appear below. If he is not pure, then it should not be done. The basis of training for a novice monk is ten, of which the first five are common with a lay devotee. The five are not common, of which abandoning singing, dancing, and the sound of musical instruments is one basis of training, because it is of a frivolous nature. Abandoning garlands, perfumes, ornaments, and colors is the second basis of training, because it generates pride. The term 'perfume' means to smear the whole body with fragrant substances. The term 'ornaments' means wearing necklaces, decorated bracelets, and armlets, etc. The term 'using colors' means drawing patterns on one's body with saffron and camphor, etc. Abandoning high beds and large beds is the third basis of training.

It is because of great attachment. Among them, the so-called "high seat" means exceeding a cubit in size. The so-called "large seat" means made of earth, gold, and so on. Abandoning untimely food is the fourth precept, because it is the nature of asceticism. Abandoning the acceptance of gold and silver is the fifth precept, because the utensils are meaningless. Here, the so-called gold and silver are examples of other precious things. The so-called "acceptance" means taking possession of it. Like this, those precepts, even though each one has many forms, because they are too many, those who are discouraged thinking that they are difficult to protect, in order to make them value them, therefore ten precepts are taught. For example, it is like teaching three precepts to the noble Indian son. Like this, after explaining the ritual of a novice in detail, now I will speak about the ritual of full ordination. Therefore, next it is said, "If he is twenty years old," and so on. That is, that novice is twenty years old. Full ordination can only be obtained from the Sangha, just as ordination and novice vows can only be obtained from an individual, not from an individual. By what method can one obtain full ordination from the Sangha? Therefore, next it is said, "His alms bowl and Dharma robes should be sought," and so on. That is, the one who has become the abbot should seek the alms bowl and Dharma robes of that disciple. For the one who performs the action, the one who secretly proclaims, and those monks who enter his place of action, one should also pray, and this should also be done by the one who has become the abbot. The so-called "place of action" means
