Therefore, Śāriputra himself said, "How can others experience individually the deeds done and accumulated?" meaning that because there is no connection, they will not become fruits in the continuum of others. If asked, why don't you cause them to arise from external objects by the power of magic and secret mantras, etc.? Therefore, (the Buddha) said, "Monks, the deeds done and accumulated will not ripen in the external soil," and so on. Karma, virtuous karma, means good. Non-virtuous karma means bad. 'Grasped' means grasped by the mind, which is synonymous with 'internal.' Skandha means the five characteristics of the accumulation of form, etc. Dhātu means the eighteen characteristics of the source of arising, such as the eye dhātu. 'In the āyatana, etc.' refers to the twelve doors, such as the eye āyatana, which give rise to consciousness. By the phrase 'will ripen,' it is shown that it prevents the ripening of external lands, etc., which are without mind. If asked, how can it not be destroyed when time passes? Therefore, (the Buddha) said, "Karma, even after hundreds of eons," and so on. The second word "also" shows the difference in the meaning of the word "also" similar to "like this," that is, karma will not be destroyed even after hundreds of eons, which means that if the causes and conditions and the time are complete, it will become a fruit on sentient beings, and if the causes and conditions and the time are not complete, it is not certain to become a fruit. 'Collection' means the collection of the cause of arising. 'Time' means the absence of hindering causes. 'Complete' means having. 'On sentient beings' means on beings. 'Becoming a fruit' means ripening into a fruit. The word 'indeed' is a definite meaning, meaning that it will not be destroyed. Thus, the meaning of the words here is: definite karma will not be destroyed even after hundreds of millions of eons, because it has the collection of causes and the hin-

If a time without conditions can be found, then the sentient beings, the doers, will become the fruits of what is desired and undesired; this is the meaning here. When did the noble Shariputra purify karma, and how did he do it? Therefore, monks, (the Buddha) spoke of "what happened in the past" and so on. What happened in the past should be narrated, not what is happening now; this is its definition. Afflictions refer to desire and so on. Becoming harmful means becoming tormented. The medicine of solitary places refers to the medicine that grows from solitary places, such as roots, trunks, and so on. Living means having strength. Together means at the same time. Speech refers to speaking. Sipa refers to having undesirable fruits. Non-dharma refers to the dharma of impure people; because it holds the characteristics of bad conduct, what is not dharma is also expressed with the sound of dharma. Together means simultaneously. The collection of qualities refers to great qualities; here it refers to the difference of wisdom. Completely means in a place without people. Without a Khenpo means that there is no one here who independently teaches the Dharma. Without a teacher means that there is no one who shows the near path. In accordance with the aspects of enlightenment means in accordance with the aspects of enlightenment that know exhaustion and non-arising. The thirty-seven dharmas are like the four mindfulnesses, the four right abandonments, the four miraculous feet, the five faculties, the five powers, the seven branches of enlightenment, and the eightfold noble path, which add up to thirty-seven. Having generated means having manifested. Self-enlightenment refers to being encompassed by the intermediate faculty of knowing exhaustion and non-arising. Manifested means manifested by the two manifestations of attainment and knowledge; this is the definition of becoming a solitary Buddha. Those great beings teach the Dharma with their bodies, not with words.

"Body" means relying on the body to burn and manifest, etc. "Teaching the Dharma" means closely showing the Dharma. If "Dharma teacher" is a difference in words, how can the body teach the Dharma? Answer: It is not without reason, but there is no fault in closely establishing it. Just as teaching the Dharma with words can produce the desired result, showing miracles with the body can also produce the desired result. Therefore, by examining the cause of the result, this is called "teaching the Dharma," just as calling a foolish person an ox. "Not teaching with words" means not teaching the Dharma with words. Then, those great beings have the cause of arising from compassion, have obtained the fourfold unobstructed knowledge, and are skilled in fully understanding the behavior of sentient beings. Why don't they teach the Dharma with words? Indeed, but because they have been accustomed to liking solitude from immeasurable time, in order to receive the extremely profound Dharma, they are unwilling to do things for sentient beings. Because these sentient beings are driven by the stream of accumulated afflictions from beginningless time and go to the path of samsara, it is difficult for others to turn them away from the path of samsara except for the unsurpassed, perfectly complete Buddhas. Therefore, they do not teach the Dharma. Or, in order to completely avoid the fault of teaching everyone, because relying on various distractions will cause fear and dread. "Stretching the wings" means flapping the wings. "In the sky" means in the air. "Manifestly rising" means rising upwards. "Burning" means liking fire. "Manifesting" means liking light. "Raining" means liking rain. "Emitting lightning" means liking light. "Ordinary person" means not seeing Suchness. "Applying the mind" means conforming. "Trees" means the growth of trees. "Cutting from the root" means cutting from the stump. "Providing needs" means food and
