That is, "desire" means wanting the future. "Attachment" means generating afflicted joy when that desire is fulfilled. "Joy" means wanting again and again. "Grasping" means completely abandoning other objects and generating even stronger attachment to that object. "Clinging" means not wanting to give up even for a moment. "Especially clinging" means that when others dissuade, it increases attachment. "His mind is completely attached and does not abide" means that desire for the body, etc., causes his mind to be attached and completely exhausted, so that it does not abide, this is the conclusion. Therefore, this shows that the body acting in desire is the basis for especially clinging. Especially clinging to the body also arises from tasting the flavor of feeling, therefore it is said "these three sons of entering fire" etc. "Feeling" means the nature of experiencing. "Happiness" means beneficial. "Suffering" means harmful. "Neither suffering nor happiness" means neither of the two, it is a synonym for "equanimity." Therefore, this shows that feelings that have not abandoned afflictions, and pure feelings, are the cause of especially clinging to desire, therefore these were spoken. Now, in order to show how the feelings of those who have abandoned afflictions will not become the cause of especially clinging to desire, therefore it is said "son of entering fire, when" etc. The feeling of happiness, even an Arhat experiences due to the power of the object. Because the feeling of the body arises. Therefore, a well-practiced Arhat, one who has exhausted defilements, living and abiding, living and dwelling with the five faculties, arising from the adornment of previous manifestations, does not cease, and the feelings of happiness and suffering arising from that, are experienced separately, thus it was said. Some doubt whether all three feelings will be experienced at the same time, therefore it is said "at that time, he will feel suffering, and the two feelings of neither suffering nor happiness will occasionally appear" etc.

Thus it is said, "What will cease" means cessation that has not been examined. Since it is impossible to experience three kinds of feelings at the same time, it is said that at that time the noble hearers only experience the feeling of happiness. It is said that the mind streams of sentient beings arise one by one, as stated in the Treatise on Entering Wisdom. "Impermanence" means because it is momentary. "Suffering" means the suffering of conditioning and the suffering of change. "Subject to cessation" means because it possesses impermanent causes. "What is the basis?" means the cause that initially arises completely, like the causes that initially provoke phlegm, such as cold, oily, and sweet things. "What is the origin?" means the assembly of conditions, because it is said that no single condition gives rise to anything. "What is the similar kind?" means the similar cause, that is, the feeling of happiness arises from pleasant contact, the feeling of suffering arises from painful contact, and the feeling of neither happiness nor suffering arises from contact that is neither. "What is the intensifying cause?" means the uninterrupted cause, from which the result manifestly arises. Some say that the causes are distant, near, continuous, and arising from many causes in order. Some say that the order is in opposition to those who say there is no cause, a single cause, a permanent cause, or a changing cause. Regarding "like contact," etc., "contact" means the convergence of the sense faculty, the object, and consciousness. Thus, this shows that feeling is conditioned by contact. "Contact and that and that" means arising in accordance with the feeling of happiness, in accordance with the feeling of suffering, and in accordance with the feeling of neither happiness nor suffering, that is, arising from arising. "From cessation" shows that feeling ceases when contact ceases.
