Venerable Gautama, I request, "If I know and see in this way," etc. That is so, if I know and see in this way, then all aspects of views will be reversed. If the ascetic thinks, "If I am free from all views," then at that time, I have no talk of annihilation, and there is no doubt of any difference. Therefore, the Blessed One said, "Son of Merjuk, you are with the common people," etc., indicating that you are the same in view as the common people with their unpleasant views. "Same" means that it goes to others through transmission. "Similar" means in the manner of one thing. Common people also see and speak in this way, so you will become exactly the same as them. This means that many who fulfill are entangled by ignorance and possess a river of views with such aspects, but you are wise, so it is unreasonable to be just like them. This is also to show the benefit of completely abandoning wrong views, so the Blessed One said, "Son of Merjuk, in the world," etc. "Shramana" means the renunciates of other religions. "This view" means the view of annihilation, etc. "Abandoning" means completely abandoning. "Other views" means wrong views, etc. "Not approaching" means not holding on. It means "less than little, that is, rare." It is shown in this way: As many sentient beings as there are dust particles on the earth are untamed, and as many sentient beings as there are dust particles on the tip of a fingernail are tamed. Therefore, you should also enter among the very few virtuous people and abandon the aspect of views. Then, the ascetic, having heard a reasonable answer, and in order to state the reason, and in order to bestow gentle words, devoted his mind. The Blessed One gradually taught the Sutra, showing the nature, faults, and benefits of views.

For what reason, it is said, such as these three sons of Merjuk. The so-called "place of view" is the place where views arise, a synonym for "source." The so-called "what are the three" is a synonym for question; this question, in some places, after the Blessed One knew that beings had not attained fearlessness, he himself made it, or possessing the fearlessness of hearing, one should know what one has done. The so-called "in this" refers to the complete declaration of views. The so-called "some" means some, not all. The so-called "all tolerant" indicates the view of permanence. The so-called "other" means other categories, or the remaining words for stating things. The so-called "all intolerant" indicates the view of annihilation. The so-called "some tolerant and some intolerant" indicates both the view of permanence and the view of annihilation. Then, how can the same person hold both the view of permanence and the view of annihilation? For example, for someone, when clinging to form as permanent, they cling to the other four aggregates as annihilated. Or, when clinging to form as annihilated, they cling to the other four aggregates as permanent, so there is no contradiction, this comes from the treatises of the distinctionists. The son of Merjuk, regarding this, etc., the word "regarding this" is specific, the so-called specific means distinguishing one aspect from the generalities of kind, quality, and action, etc. Moreover, each has three aspects: from where, by what, and for what reason. Then, from where is it specified? From the generality of the three views. By what is it specified? By permanence itself as the kind. For what reason is it specified? In order to understand the unknown dharma, and the other aspects should be understood in the same way. The so-called "what is the view" refers to the view of permanence. The so-called "completely attached" refers to the continuity of attachment. The so-called "transformation" refers to transforming into the real object of the cause. The so-called "completely hateful" and "completely deluded" should also be understood in the same way. If one were to be completely hateful towards oneself, what would happen? It would not be so, but one would be hateful towards the views of others, such as towards one's own views.

If one becomes particularly attached, it is because one hates other views that have become enemies of it. The so-called "all," etc., refers to the increase of actions that cause rebirth. The so-called "without all," etc., refers to the cessation of actions that cause rebirth. The so-called "all combination" refers to the all combination together with the aggregates that cause rebirth. The so-called "separation from all combination" refers to separation from them. The so-called "all afflictions" refers to the stream of suffering that arises from the causes of birth, etc. The so-called "completely purified" refers to returning from suffering. The so-called "manifest joy" refers to desiring the future. The so-called "near attainment" refers to the afflictions that arise from completely seeking to obtain it. The so-called "particularly attached" refers to being particularly attached to obtaining it. Returning from those is also to be understood in the same way. However, if all forms of views become all desires, etc., then why does the view of permanence alone become all desires, etc., while the view of annihilation is shown not to become all desires, etc.? To this, the answer given by the Vaibhashikas is that it is said with consideration, because there is also arising in the view of permanence of the heretics, so that increases the mind that throws rebirth. In the view of annihilation of the heretics, there is no arising, because dwelling in the womb is his last birth, so that does not increase the mind that throws rebirth. Therefore, considering that point, it is shown that the view of permanence becomes all desires, while the view of annihilation does not become all desires, etc. Therefore, the view of permanence of the heretics is to put the desire for the next world first, so all afflictions and near afflictions arise for him. The view of annihilation of the heretics does not desire the next world, so afflictions do not arise for him. In this way, the nature, faults, and benefits of these views are shown. Fifth fascicle. If Sen-ring thinks like this, from putting the view of permanence first, all afflictions and near afflictions will arise,
