I do not like that, because the existence of the afterlife and so on is not reasonable in terms of logic. Because the object of direct perception is the thing that is present before one's eyes, and the afterlife is not an object of the senses. For that which is not an object of the senses, the valid cognition of direct perception is reversed. The object of inference is a general characteristic, so because there is no object of the thing, it cannot be a valid cognition. Even so, if someone says that what is not directly perceived is a valid cognition, I do not like that, that is the conclusion. Thus, the wandering ascetic Senaringa holds the view of annihilation, believing that being in the womb is the first birth, and death is the last birth, because they believe that sentient beings are annihilated after death. The venerable Shariputra, having become a renunciate, became uneasy and had this kind of thought arise in him: ultimate knowledge does not exist, so even those with long-standing intelligence turn away from the teachings. Therefore, Shariputra is not as wise as the ascetic Gautama, and surely someone else is wiser than him, and surely someone else is wiser than him. Shariputra's knowledge is overwhelmed by the ascetic Gautama's knowledge, and his knowledge will also be overwhelmed by someone else, and his will be overwhelmed by someone else, therefore, ultimate knowledge does not exist. There is no excellent distinction. Thinking, "O Gautama, I cannot tolerate everything," he says. When he said that, the Blessed One said, "Son of Merjuk, the view that you have, which is the view that we cannot tolerate everything, is also intolerable." Because by negating everything with the pervasive phrase "I cannot tolerate everything," the view of annihilation itself is also negated. Then, Senaringa, fearing that his vow would be broken, said, "O Gautama, the view that I have, which is the view that we cannot tolerate everything, is also intolerable." This is a clinging view encompassed by the view of annihilation, which should be abandoned by seeing suffering. Its motivation is to gain worldly fame, and because the venerable Shariputra, having become a renunciate, was displeased. O Gautama, I cannot tolerate everything.

Having observed in that way and spoken those words, that is, for the moment, the general meaning. Now, the meaning of the branches will be explained. ཀྱེ་ (Tibetan, Devanagari, Romanized Sanskrit, Literal Chinese meaning) is a Tibetan word. ཐམས་ཅད་ (Tibetan, Devanagari, Romanized Sanskrit, Literal Chinese meaning) refers to the nature of speaking of permanence, and so on. མི་བཟོད་དོ་ (Tibetan, Devanagari, Romanized Sanskrit, Literal Chinese meaning) means 'not desired.' མེར་འཇུག་གི་བུ་ (Tibetan, Devanagari, Romanized Sanskrit, Literal Chinese meaning) means 'because it is born from the lineage of entering fire.' The view that sees everything as unbearable, that view is also unbearable, meaning that since the view of annihilation is included in the category of everything unbearable, it is reasonable that your view of annihilation is also unbearable, thus he taught. Then, Senreng, fearing that the vow would be broken, said, 'I also cannot bear the view of the view that sees everything as unbearable,' and thus he promised. འོ་ན་ (Tibetan, Devanagari, Romanized Sanskrit, Literal Chinese meaning) means 'if you promise.' After Senreng promised in that way, what is the benefit of that? Since Senreng holds the view of annihilation, when he considers everything unbearable, he completely abandons all views, and that itself is his great benefit, and it should be connected in that way. Knowing in that way means that since all views are unreasonable, one should know that they are contradictory from beginning to end. Seeing in that way means seeing in that way through the means of reason. 'That view also' means that annihilationist view. 'View' refers to the wisdom of affliction that is similar to the aspect of mind, because it is the nature of universal discrimination. 'Abandoning' means through the means of suppression. 'Discarding' means because its attainment is severed. 'Ceasing to exist' means because it will not exist again. 'Other views also' means other views that arise from the cause of views other than the annihilationist view. 'Not connecting boundaries' means because it will not become manifest. 'Not approaching' means because there is no connection. 'Will not arise' means because the continuum is severed. He taught thus: 'If you know that all views are unreasonable, then at that time you will turn away from all views, and that itself is the benefit,' this is the concluding statement. Because Senreng listened well to the benefit, he repeated the words of the Bhagavan.
