Frightened means scared. To strive in terms of harm means to strive to quarrel. There are five types of times the ghanta is struck. The places to strike them are high places such as rooftops.

Indeed it is so. The *ghaṇṭā* for assembling the Saṃgha is three strokes and three rings, meaning that at the time of a large gathering, in order to assemble all the Saṃgha, when striking the *ghaṇṭā*, one should strike the recitation syllables three times, and at the end, make a loud ringing sound three times as well. The *ghaṇṭā* for work is one stroke and three rings, meaning that for the purpose of doing work, when striking the *ghaṇṭā*, one should strike the recitation syllables once, and at the end, make a loud ringing sound three times. Some say it is three strokes and two rings. The *ghaṇṭā* for death is silence, meaning that for the purpose of gathering for death, and for carrying the corpse on the shoulders, etc., striking the *ghaṇṭā* is silence, striking a few syllables, and not ringing at the end. Some say it is one stroke and one ring. The *ghaṇṭā* for renunciation is a staff bell, meaning that for a renunciant *bhikṣu*, the *ghaṇṭā* is made with a gathering staff bell, and the staff bell should be shaken, this is its definition. Some say the *ghaṇṭā* should be small. The *ghaṇṭā* for when harm has occurred is to strike until it is enough, meaning that when harm such as thieves has occurred, striking the *ghaṇṭā* should be done until it is enough, striking until it subsides, this is its definition. For the purpose of gathering for food, both the *ghaṇṭā* and the small *ghaṇṭā* should be struck. First, the small *ghaṇṭā* should be struck, and the steward and purifier, etc., should make offerings to the Buddha, and do tasks such as washing the alms bowl, and then when the time for the shadow has arrived, the large *ghaṇṭā* should be struck, and all the Saṃgha should be assembled for food. At the time of a large gathering, if striking the *ghaṇṭā* is not understood, then one should also blow the conch shell and strike the large drum. Striking the *ghaṇṭā* should not be delayed, nor should it be too fast. Reaching the end of time means reaching the end of the time for the shadow. Acting as one pleases means the mantra of renunciation, by doing so, for the *bhikṣus* begging for alms, etc., one should also say "Act as you please with those who have life." That is obtained from the Saṃgha, meaning eating food in the Saṃgha. The third continuous recitation should be recited.

The so-called "O" refers to reciting the three scriptures: the "Three Jewels Lineage Sutra," the "Sutra Collection Lineage Sutra," and the "Dedication Lineage Sutra." Just as wandering ascetics rely on three wooden supports for their bowls, the foundation for reciting the holy Dharma is these three continuous scriptures, hence the name "Three Continuous Scriptures." The so-called "recite appropriately" means not too much and not too little, but reciting in moderation. The so-called "explain the merits" means that after reciting the three continuous scriptures, the merits of giving should be explained. The so-called "if such a situation occurs" means if something happens that hinders the practice of virtue, life, and celibacy. The so-called "key" refers to a crooked key, etc. The so-called "that is abiding" refers to the fast of tranquility. Twelfth Chapter. Now, the topic of the harmonious fast from the basis of the fast will be discussed. In order to explain the place where the fast is jointly performed with faith, the Blessed One taught, "What to do," and so on. The so-called "request" means only making a request, such as secretly appointing, etc. The so-called "request and two" refers to what action has one statement of action and a request and two, such as jointly performing the fast, etc. The so-called "action of request and four" refers to what action has three statements of action and a request and four, such as fully ordaining, etc. The so-called "fast" means guarding and purifying the precepts, which means to guard. The so-called "recite every half month" refers to the fourteenth or fifteenth day. The so-called "recite the Pratimoksha Sutra" means that in order to exclude situations where the precepts can also be guarded in other ways, such as rectifying the mind and avoiding adverse conditions, it is said that the Pratimoksha Sutra should be recited. There are five ways to recite the Pratimoksha Sutra: reciting the introduction, reciting the defeat, reciting the Sanghavasesa, reciting the uncertain.
