Reviling householders and Brahmins, etc., up to the establishment of the place of learning the Vinaya, as before. Furthermore, if any bhikkhuni recites a single phrase of Dharma together with a woman who has not received full ordination, it is a downfall. Furthermore, a bhikkhuni, that is, the twelve classes of women or any others similar to them. Reciting a single phrase of Dharma together with a woman who has not received full ordination means reciting the same phrase and letters of the Dharma spoken by the Buddha and the Shravakas, with the same intonation, to a bhikkhu or a householder, etc. Even if the words themselves are reversed, it is a downfall. In this case, if someone relies on the scriptures to build a monastery, etc., reciting together is a misdeed. Listening to the Dharma and disciples, teaching each other, or teaching the forgetful, or the sick and the mentally disturbed, etc., reciting together is not an offense. The sixth downfall is complete. The Buddha, the Bhagavan, was dwelling in Shravasti. At that time, bhikkhunis who had not abandoned their defilements and were not free from desire committed sanghavasesa offenses, and they were performing the sanghavasesa penance and rejoicing according to the Dharma. Householders and Brahmins saw this and said, "These bhikkhunis are like accumulating jewels, making offerings to the Three Jewels." The twelve classes of women said, "These bhikkhunis are not making offerings to the Three Jewels according to the Dharma, but are performing penance and rejoicing." The laywomen who were close to those bhikkhunis heard this from the householders and Brahmins. Those bhikkhunis said to the pure laywomen who were close to them, "Do giving and receiving, etc." Those bhikkhunis said, "You are also committing great offenses, why should we do giving and receiving?" and refused. They reported this to the Bhagavan, up to the establishment of the place of learning the Vinaya, as before. Furthermore, if any bhikkhuni speaks of the fault of an improper dwelling to a person who has not received full ordination, unless the Sangha permits it, it is a downfall. Furthermore, a bhikkhuni, that is, the twelve classes of women, or any others similar to them. To a person who has not received full ordination, a dwelling

The so-called stating of coarse offenses refers to stating them to laypeople who are less than fully ordained monks. The so-called bad place refers to offenses such as defeat and residual offenses. If one thinks that laypeople and others do not know about offenses such as defeat, and states the offenses of a bad place, one commits a downfall. If one is uncertain about what one does not know, one also commits a downfall. If one thinks that one does not know what one does not know, one commits a misdeed. If one is uncertain about what one knows, one also commits a misdeed. The so-called "except with the permission of the Sangha" means that for an honest and innocent Bhikshuni, if other Bhikshunis do not allow her to proclaim the offense through the act of solicitation and request, then there is no offense. If one states an offense less than a downfall to a fully ordained person, etc., and the Sangha allows it to be stated, one commits a misdeed. There is no offense for those who are sick, insane, or mentally disturbed, etc. The seventh downfall is complete. The Buddha, the Bhagavan, was residing in Vaishali (Yangs pa can, now in northern Bihar, India). At that time, some Bhikshuni elders who had attained superior qualities (special merits) entered monasteries in other places. At that time, there was a famine, and it was difficult to obtain alms and other food. Those elder nuns praised each other and spoke to others about the superior qualities they had attained, so they were not troubled by alms. After coming out of the monasteries, they went to Vaishali. The Bhikshunis asked, "Have you come in peace? During the summer retreat, were you not troubled by alms?" They spoke in detail about what had happened. Some Bhikshunis with few desires ridiculed, "For the sake of a little wealth, they actually speak to others about their qualities that surpass ordinary people." They reported what had happened to the Bhagavan, and up to learning the discipline, it was the same as before. Furthermore, if a Bhikshuni tells a person who has not received Bhikshuni ordination about the superior qualities she has attained, she commits a downfall. The so-called "Furthermore, if a Bhikshuni" refers to the Bhikshuni elders, or others similar to them. The so-called "person who has not received Bhikshuni ordination" is the same as before. The so-called "tells about the superior qualities she has attained" means "I have indeed perfected the holy qualities that surpass ordinary people," for the sake of a little wealth.
