There is wrongdoing in between. If one forcibly demands it back, it is a Nissaggiya Pacittiya offense. If someone says, "Make this with cloth here," there is no offense. Beginners and others are as before. The sixteenth Nissaggiya Pacittiya offense is complete. The Teacher was residing in Sravasti. Subhaga gave cloth to a female disciple and said, "Come, let's go for a walk together, I want to practice farming." Because she couldn't go there, Subhaga snatched the Dharma robe. After reporting this to the Teacher, the training was established. Also, after giving a Dharma robe to a Bhikkhuni, afterwards being angry, agitated, fierce, and displeased, even if she is not allowed to take it back, or even if she is allowed to take it back, saying to the Bhikkhuni, "I will not give you this robe, give it back to me." If she says that to the Bhikkhuni, and the Bhikkhuni returns and divides the remaining part of the Dharma robe, it is a Nissaggiya Pacittiya offense. "Robe" refers to the seven types of wool, etc. "Giving" means having given. "Afterwards" means at another time. "Being angry, agitated, fierce" means the anger has not subsided. "Remaining part" means how much is remaining. "Give it back" means to abandon it forever. "Nissaggiya Pacittiya offense" means as before. What kind of offense is it? Seizing with the body, or seizing with speech and body together. Pulling with the body, there is wrongdoing until the edge of the robe and the body are not separated. If the body separates, it is an offense. If seizing with speech, it is the same. If one allows a householder to seize it, there is wrongdoing. If the body separates, it is an offense. Which Bhikkhuni gave it to a Bhikkhuni, and which Bhikkhuni allowed it to be seized, it is an offense. There is wrongdoing for each until the body is not separated. Seizing after the body separates is an offense. There is wrongdoing for entrusting someone to seize it. If one allows a Bhikkhuni to seize it, it is an offense. If the body is not separated, both have wrongdoing. If it separates, there is wrongdoing for the Bhikkhuni, and an offense for the immoral one. There is no offense for other purposes and for discipline. What are the other purposes? If the Teacher and Preceptor see the disciple going to a place with fear, or at the wrong time, or to the waterside, or to a cliff, and seize the Dharma robe, there is no offense. "For discipline" means the disciple relies on evil friends.

Indeed, there is no fault in snatching the monastic robe in order to prevent going against this. There is no fault for the beginner. The seventeenth abandonment downfall is complete. The Teacher was residing in Shravasti. At that time, the bhikkhuni Utpalavarna separated a householder from wrong views and placed him in the precepts of refuge. The bhikkhunis asked the noble one, "Which householder did you place in the precepts?" She replied, "This one. We have never before received any alms from him." Utpalavarna said, "If possible, prepare a meal for the bhikkhuni sangha." Having said this, she went to that householder and said, "Can you prepare a meal for the bhikkhuni sangha?" He also said that he could. Utpalavarna asked, "Will you prepare it with or without robes?" The householder said, "After offering a meal to the sangha, I will offer a piece of cloth." Then she invited the bhikkhuni sangha, and that night they prepared food and drink. The bhikkhuni named Sthulananda heard this and said, "If I do not get that one piece of cloth, I am not Sthulananda." Having said this, she went to the householder. The householder asked in detail what to prepare. Sthulananda said, "Householder, you have the merit of giving, but not the merit of enjoying. Please give it to a Shakya son who has gone forth and is endowed with the three pitakas." The householder said, "Please, you who are endowed with such qualities, enjoy it." Sthulananda thought, "If I send it separately, it will not be appropriate." After offering the meal to the bhikkhuni sangha, she instructed, "You take that cloth from the elder and put it in my lap." The householder also offered a meal to the bhikkhuni sangha the next day, and after taking a piece of cloth from the elder, he placed it in Sthulananda's lap. The bhikkhuni who was distributing the robes said to Sthulananda, "Please give me that cloth." Sthulananda said, "The householder gave this cloth to me." The bhikkhunis reported to the householder. People unhappily complained, "He has dedicated the bhikkhuni sangha's property to an individual."
