The women said: You have only heard, but we have seen with our own eyes, the good cloths were taken away, but the bad ones were given to us. After such things happened, they reported to the Teacher, and the women were blamed in various ways, and rules of learning were established. If a Bhikshuni's clothes are robbed, or the clothes are lost, or the clothes are burned, or the clothes are blown away by the wind, or the clothes are washed away by the water. One can beg for clothes from a non-relative benefactor, or the benefactor's wife. If the Brahmin or those benefactors are pious and offer many seasonal clothes. If needed, the Bhikshuni should not take more than one upper garment and one lower skirt from those offered clothes, if more is taken, it is a Nissaggiya Pacittiya. If a Bhikshuni's clothes are robbed by thieves, or washed away by water, etc., until the benefactor's wife is not a relative, it is the same as mentioned before. There are two cases of taking more than one upper garment: Bhikshuni and householder. The upper garment of a householder is twelve cubits of cloth. The cloth for the lower skirt is seven cubits in length and two cubits in width. The upper garment of a Bhikshuni, if it is an unsewn cloth, is double-layered. The length of the lower skirt is five cubits and the width is one cubit. Taking more than these cloths is exceeding these. The Nissaggiya Pacittiya is the same as mentioned before. What kind of offense is it? It is taking the upper and lower garments of a householder. Taking more than what a householder can get for an upper garment, one commits a Dukkata when begging, and a Pacittiya when obtaining it. The upper and lower garments of a Bhikshuni are also the same. Begging for the upper and lower garments of a householder, if obtained, but not enough, then do not beg again. Do not give the excess either. The upper and lower garments of a Bhikshuni, if begged for, obtained, but not enough, then beg again. Return the excess. If the clothes that have been given up have not been given up, or the offense has not been confessed, and other clothes are obtained, then those clothes will also be given up due to the previous reason. The seventh Nissaggiya is completed. When the Teacher was staying in Shravasti, an event occurred. A householder slept with another man's wife, and warned his own wife not to sleep with others, then got drunk, and his wife also slept with other men. All the houses collapsed, and there was a slave who was sent to serve, (she said) the houses collapsed, (she) kept crying and was very distressed.

Transitions in between. Later, the householder couple of Spomga (place name), after hearing the Dharma, abandoned their evil deeds and took refuge in the Buddha. They took vows and left. The maid thought, "Even the slightest kindness I have received is due to Spomga (person's name), I should help her." Later, the wife said, "Master Spomga (person's name) is our virtuous friend, separating us from defilements and having us take vows, we should offer her some help." The householder said, "Then let's give her a piece of cloth." The maid heard this. "Spomga (person's name) goes begging in the morning and comes to the householder's house, please make the Holy Mother happy. The householder couple will give you a piece of cloth." After that, Spomga (person's name), not quite trusting the maid, went to their house and said, "I still want that cloth." The householder said, "We discussed it secretly, who did the Holy Mother hear it from?" Spomga (person's name) said, "Having been ordained for so long, don't you even know that?" Then they gave her the cloth. She was not satisfied and said, "You two have the merit of giving this cloth, but not the merit of using it, take this cloth away and give another cloth." The householder's wife said, "Go to the market and buy a good cloth for her." The householder also took Spomga (person's name) to the market, bought an expensive cloth from what he felt, and gave it to Spomga (person's name). When the merchant's term expired, the householder had not repaid the huge amount of money, and was caught by the merchant. The devout Brahmins and laypeople ridiculed him, and prayed to the teacher, and established the precepts. For the sake of the Bhikshunis, if the householder or the householder's wife is not a relative, they can accumulate some money for cloth, thinking, "With this money for cloth, I will buy such and such cloth, and if a Bhikshuni named so-and-so comes, I will give her the suitable cloth in time." If they have not been informed beforehand, if that Bhikshuni has some conceptual thoughts, they should go to the householder or the householder's non-relative, desiring goodness.
