If one renounces six thousand possessions and becomes ordained, (they will say) you are like a swamp. Therefore, I said, then I too shall become ordained. Likewise, tomorrow I shall become ordained. Kāla regretted it, and now those with black alms bowls are mocking, saying that if this bhikṣuṇī becomes ordained, the group of six bhikṣus will mock, saying that this bhikṣuṇī has become ordained, and thus Jeta will also be mocked. Thinking this, he fled to Rājagṛha and entered the monastery. The maidservant sat with Kāla during the day, and because she was not (satisfied), she was crying. The Lady of Beings saw this and had her ordained. After coming out of the monastery, she was reciting outside, and the maidservant came to pay homage. Kāla remembered the previous intimacy and arose with desire. The maidservant knew this and fled. Kāla chased after her, saying, "Don't go, touch my head." He touched her thigh and ejaculated. After the desire subsided, the maidservant returned, and (Kāla) lifted her skirt and said, "Look!" Seeing the semen, she arose with desire, picked up the semen, and inserted it into her vagina, and as a result, she became pregnant. The bhikṣuṇīs said, "Did you sleep with Kāla?" She reported in detail to the Blessed One, saying, "Although I touched Kāla, I did not truly touch him." (The Buddha said,) "This is not a pārājika offense, let her stay in a secluded place, and do not let her worry about food. This child is named Nakṣatra, and in the future, he will become an arhat." After that, the Teacher thought that if a non-relative bhikṣuṇī were to wash clothes, there would be faults, so he established the precept. Furthermore, if a bhikṣuṇī washes old clothes for a non-relative bhikṣu, or boils them, or beats them, she commits a nissaggiya pācittiya offense. Non-relative means between seven generations of blood relatives on the father's side and seven generations on the mother's side. Clothes refer to wool, silk, and the bark of hemp, etc. Old means more than four months old. Washing means even just putting it in water. Boiling means even just dipping it in dye. Beating means striking with the palm of the hand. Nissaggiya pācittiya means to abandon the item and confess the offense. What kind of offense? Thinking that a non-relative is a non-relative, or having doubts about a non-relative.

Relieving oneself after washing excrement and urine in that way constitutes an offense. To claim someone is not a relative when they are, or to act with doubt about a relative, both are offenses. The fourth pārājika offense is complete. The Blessed One was residing in Shravasti. At that time, there was a wealthy householder with great possessions. He took a wife who was younger and of a lower status. Later, the householder's wealth was depleted. The householder thought, "I am old and unable to accumulate wealth." So he said to his wife, "Good woman, you should become a renunciate." She replied, "Like my husband, I too shall become a renunciate." He agreed. One became a renunciate in the community of nuns, and the other in the community of monks. Later, the monk went for alms and saw an old garment. He asked, "Do you have an undergarment?" She replied, "I do not." The monk gave her his own undergarment. The Teacher instructed Ananda, "Go and tell the monks that those who have faith may travel with the Thus-Gone One, offering robes and possessions." Ananda followed these instructions, and the Teacher, with his retinue, traveled. At that time, the Teacher, like an elephant, looked to the right and saw a monk wearing a somewhat new woolen robe, traveling. Then he said to Ananda, "Ananda, do the monks residing in dwellings not receive offerings of robes?" "Venerable one, they do receive offerings." "Then why is he traveling without an undergarment?" "Venerable one, this monk sought an undergarment from a nun." "Ananda, can a nun take robes from a monk who is not a relative?" "Venerable one, she can." Then the Teacher rebuked the nuns and established the precepts. Furthermore, if a nun takes a robe from a monk who is not a relative, except for an exchange, it is a pārājika offense. "Not a relative" means as before. "Robe" refers to cotton, linen, and so forth. "Taking" means accepting for use. "Except for an exchange" means using something obtained through exchange. "Pārājika offense" means as before. What kind of offense is it? Not a relative.
