After that, they sewed bowls and monastic robes, wandering in fields and valleys, their bodies exhausted and flesh exposed. The nuns residing in the monasteries also dried, folded, shook, collected, and hid their clothes. Because of the many tasks, it became an obstacle to their practice. Some nuns with fewer tasks ridiculed them. They reported this matter to the Buddha, who rebuked them for their faults of being difficult to teach and satisfy, and established the precepts for the Shravaka nuns: If a nun sews her clothes and removes the thread, if any of the five robes is separated from the boundary overnight, she commits a Nissaggiya Pacittiya offense. After establishing the precepts in this way, the Buddha resided in Rajagriha. At that time, Gautami was residing in the rainy season retreat of the nuns in Rajagriha, called the King's Garden. Then, on the fifteenth day of the Uposatha, Gautami attended the Uposatha with the Sangha of nuns. The nun Dharma-dana also went to the Uposatha place, but because the river swelled in the summer, the sewing frame was wet and took a long time to dry. When she arrived at the Uposatha place, the other nuns said, "You are late." Dharma-dana then told the story and said, "Holy mothers, I am old, and the sewing frame is heavy. I cannot carry it. What should I do?" They reported this matter to the Buddha, requesting the Buddha to grant the precept that the elderly nun Dharma-dana should not be separated from the sewing frame. Therefore, the previous establishment was a permission. In this way, the precepts were established for the Shravaka nuns: If a nun sews her clothes and removes the thread, if any of the five robes is separated from the boundary overnight, unless permitted by the Sangha, she commits a Nissaggiya Pacittiya offense. "Removing the thread" is as mentioned before. "Five robes" refers to the sewing frame, upper garment, inner garment, outer garment, and shoulder covering. "Overnight" refers to being separated by the dawn of one night. "Outside the boundary" refers to the boundary of the village, which is the boundary surrounded by trees, from the trees to the area that can be reached by a vehicle pulled by six oxen.

The flight of the kya-gag is the end. For a town surrounded by walls, it counts up to where the eye dust of cattle and sheep falls, and up to where one feels ashamed and excretes waste. For a town surrounded by ditches, it counts up to twelve spans of a ladder from the ditch. Or it counts up to where a donkey rolls from a pile of sweepings. For a market town, it counts up to one fathom outside the market time when merchants have not divided their property. A boat counts up to one fathom outside, or up to where a stake is driven to moor the boat. Under a tree, it counts up to where leaves fall when blown by the wind, the place where drops fall, and where the shadow moves with the sun after midday. A nomadic monastery is bounded by one fathom. For most trees, it counts up to where the leaves are mixed and the boundary is not distinguished. For unconnected places, it counts up to one fathom. For a path taken by travelers, it counts up to forty-nine fathoms. Between boundaries, the edge of the Dharma robe should not be separated from the body. Outside those boundaries, if the Dharma robe is on the body and the body is inside, or the body is outside and the Dharma robe is inside, if it is separated by the dawn of one night, it will become an object to be abandoned. "Except for what is permitted by the Sangha" means using permission. "Abandoning transgression" means confessing transgression after abandoning the object. The second part of abandoning is complete. The Teacher was residing in Nyan-du. At that time, if the nuns found a blue cloth, they would leave it because it was not suitable, thinking that when they found something similar, they would make a robe. Just like blue, so too with yellow, red, ugly, and thin. Whoever it may be, the matter of searching for Dharma robes and the actions involved were too many, and it became an obstacle to virtue. Therefore, after reporting to the Teacher, the precepts were established. If a nun takes a Dharma robe, undoes the stitches, and wants to obtain an untimely robe, then let that nun enjoy that robe. Having taken it, if it is suitable, then quickly sew it into a robe and wear it. If it is not suitable, and there is hope of finding suitable cloth, then let that nun keep that robe for one month. If it is kept beyond that time, it is a transgression of abandonment. If a nun takes a Dharma robe and undoes the stitches,
