That is an offense. If things are broadly classified, there are many, but in short, there are two types: sentient beings and non-sentient beings. This is because all objects of learning are established based on these two. If afflictions are broadly classified, there are many, but in short, there are two. What are the two? They are innate afflictions and conceptually imputed afflictions. This is because all downfalls arise from these two. Characteristics are shown by the characteristics of the objects of learning. For example, the word "also" indicates that there is no offense for a beginner. Becoming an offense means showing that doing this will become an offense. Not becoming an offense means showing that doing this will not become an offense. Having these limbs will become an offense, and not having these limbs will not become an offense. Arising has six aspects: body, speech, body and mind, speech, speech and mind, body, speech, and mind. This is because all downfalls arise from these six. Signs are the names of Parajika and so on. Because it diminishes the power of virtuous Dharma and generates the faults of bad destinies, it is called Parajika. Because it is expelled by the Sangha, it is also a remainder. If such an offense occurs, the Sangha will reject it for the sake of admonishment. Because it burns, boils, and falls in the evil destinies, it is also a downfall. If one does not confess, one will increase many faults. Because one must confess, it is a separate confession. Because one is blamed for doing evil, it is also a misdeed. Interrupted and uninterrupted depend on the antidote. Because the continuity of the offense is interrupted, it is called interrupted. The opposite of that is uninterrupted. There are two types of faults: natural and stipulated faults. This is because all downfalls are the nature of these two. Done and not done means doing the action, and what becomes an offense even if the action is not done. Practiced and not practiced means what is stipulated after becoming an offense. Heavy and light have six aspects: stipulation, object, affliction, effort, person, and time.

Among them, regarding the severity of offenses, the heavier is when, after violating the precepts, one also commits a self-natured transgression. Regarding the severity of objects, for beings in the animal realm, the sin of killing is heavy, while the Sanghavasesa offense is not so. Regarding the severity of afflictions, the sin arising from disrespectful afflictions is heavy. Regarding the severity of practice, the sin of constant transgression is heavy. Regarding the severity of individuals, the sin committed by a fool against a meditator with virtuous roots is heavy. Regarding the severity of time, the sin of concealing a transgression for a long time is heavy. The opposite of these six is light. The common characteristic is the actions of body and speech, as all precepts are actions of these two. Confession is of four types: the confession of a heavy offense is expulsion, the confession of a medium offense is Sanghavasesa, the confession of a light offense is giving up, and the confession of a non-offense is others. That which turns into affliction is the sin arising from afflictions such as greed. That which does not turn into affliction is the sin arising from other afflictions that are not greed, etc. There are four causes for the arising of offenses: ignorance, negligence, many afflictions, and disrespect. How does sin arise from ignorance? For example, someone has not heard or understood the downfall, and therefore their mind is immature, thinking that there is no sin in downfall, thus sin arises. How does sin arise from negligence? For example, someone has understood the downfall but dwells in forgetfulness and non-mindfulness, and therefore does not remember, thus sin arises. How does sin arise from many afflictions? For example, someone has understood the downfall but is heavily influenced by greed, hatred, and delusion, knowing that this should not be done, but is involuntarily driven by afflictions, thus sin arises. How does sin arise from disrespect? For example, someone has understood the downfall but favors the inferior and has not practiced the preliminary practices, and therefore, because of favoring the inferior, disregards the Dharma of a renunciate and does not strive for Nirvana.
