Therefore, one should strive to be diligent in mindfulness, which will be explained. Combining the simile and the meaning, explaining the decay of the body and the place of birth, it means that the aging and death of the noble ones will appear, and the teachings of the Teacher will also perish. The cause for the long-lasting and perfect abiding of the Brahmacarya is twofold: the body not decaying, that is, aging without being suppressed; and the place of birth not decaying, that is, the teachings of the Teacher abiding. Therefore, just as the years and months pass, so too will the decay of the body and the place of birth appear. When the place of birth that can be endured and sustained has not decayed, one should be diligent, this is the concluding statement. Among these, aging and death show the complete decay of the body, that is, the combination of being unbearable and interrupted, in sequence. The teachings of the Teacher will perish, which shows the complete decay of the place of birth. Among these, aging and death refer to the characteristic of the aggregates maturing and then perishing. Appearing means that it will definitely come. The Teacher refers to the Tathagata, because he truly proclaims the meaning without inversion. The teachings refer to the twelve divisions of scripture, because the Bhagavan proclaimed these teachings to the world, including gods, humans, and asuras. Perishing means that it will not remain. Guarding mindfulness means that the noble ones should practice yoga in mindfulness. Because the body and the place of birth will completely decay, therefore, it is explained that one should practice yoga in mindfulness. Among these, mindfulness is the antidote to non-vigilance, that is, non-attachment, non-hatred, non-ignorance, abiding in diligence, abandoning non-virtuous dharmas, and also cultivating the virtuous dharmas that are their antidotes. Mentioning mindfulness is for the purpose of encompassing all virtuous dharmas. Among these, yoga refers to the meaning of being combined with the supramundane path, that is, it refers to the path of uniting calm abiding and insight. If asked what appears? In the Sutra on Distinguishing the Six Sense Spheres, it says that calm abiding and insight are equal

Because it is said that (this) can introduce (concentration). Or, meditative stabilization is called yoga, and from the ground of practicing yoga accordingly, diligence and mindfulness are in accordance with yoga's attention, and it is said to be the cause of accumulation. Or, faith, desire, means, and diligence are called yoga, because they can combine. That is, from the ground of hearing arising from the practice of yoga, it is said, "What is yoga? It is of four kinds, namely faith, etc." Just as it is said. Declaring its fruit means that the enlightenment of the Tathagatas, Arhats, Perfectly Awakened Buddhas, and all other virtuous dharmas of the same kind, the factors of enlightenment, can be attained through mindfulness. Among them, Tathagata refers to how the Buddhas of the past have passed away and proceeded, and how they truly know and declare the suchness, the nature of all dharmas. The Buddhas of the future also pass away, know, and declare in the same way. Arhat is as previously explained. Perfectly Awakened refers to the complete fulfillment of the accumulation of merit and wisdom without remainder. Buddha is as previously explained. "All" refers to many. Enlightenment refers to the wisdom of cessation and non-arising. All other virtuous dharmas of the same kind, the factors of enlightenment, refer to all virtuous dharmas that can generate enlightenment other than Perfectly Awakened enlightenment, which are considered here as factors of enlightenment. "Attained through mindfulness" means that what has been shown above can also be attained through this, therefore it is said to be the declaration of the fruit of mindfulness. Declaring all the dharmas of practicing the branches of the Uposatha, therefore (in the sutra) from "What should be done first by the Sangha?" to "Thus it is upheld" has been declared. Among them, the meaning is also explained in eight ways: prohibiting non-assembly, allowing non-assembly, the ritual of offering, introducing true upholding, and true upholding.
