I dwell in empty places, mountains, caves, grasslands, places without shelter, cemeteries, forests, and any remote dwelling. I purify my mind from the five obscurations—desire, malice, dullness, sleep, agitation, regret, and doubt—and having purified my mind from these obscurations, I abide near the blissful experience of samadhi due to the absence of obscurations. Therefore, saying "dwelling in a remote place" is merely symbolic, referring to any of the aforementioned solitary dwellings. Regarding "rightly entering the superior mind," the superior mind is that which is superior to the mind of ordinary beings, namely, the uncontaminated samadhi. "Rightly entering" means cultivating it. Thus, abiding in the discipline that transcends suffering, enjoying happiness apart from desire, abandoning the two extremes that connect oneself with afflictions, entering the place of peace, and relying on calm abiding, one will attain liberation. This is what will be shown. This is the teaching of the Buddha. It is said that this was spoken by the teacher Sarvatrata. In this very Fortunate Aeon, a thousand Buddhas will appear in the world. The first is the perfectly complete Buddha Who Dispels Wrong Beliefs, and the last will be the Tathagata Adhimukti. Among them, the Tathagata Who Dispels Wrong Beliefs, Golden Sage, Light Protector, and Shakyamuni have already passed away. The perfectly complete Buddha Who Dispels Wrong Beliefs appeared in the world when beings lived to be sixty thousand years old. During the time of that teacher, most of the Shravakas were particularly attached to gain and respect, so as an antidote to this, he said: Just as a bee to a flower, without harming its color or scent, takes only the essence and flies away, so does the Muni wander in the village. The meaning of this should be understood from the analogy: just as a bee does not harm the color and fragrance of a flower, but only takes its nectar, and without being attached to that place or staying there, flies back to its original place, so too should the ordained ones...

Meditating on the three matters, without harming the enjoyment of the village, taking only a little alms, not being attached to gains and respect, returning to one's own dwelling, this is the vow. Among them, the bee refers to the ordained. The flower refers to the village. Not harming the color and scent refers to not harming the color of discipline and the scent of meditative concentration. These two sentences indicate the avoidance of attachment to gains and respect. Because attachment to gains harms the color of discipline, and attachment to respect harms the scent of meditative concentration. Therefore, gains are represented by the sound of color, and respect is represented by the sound of scent. Extracting the essence refers to not harming the enjoyment of the village, taking only a little alms. Flying refers to not staying there. Endurance refers to the endurance of body, speech, and mind. Walking in the village refers to possessing superior qualities, taking alms in the village, not staying there, and practicing diligently in secluded places. In these two fortunate kalpas, when beings can live to be thirty thousand years old, a Buddha named Golden Stillness appeared in the world. During the time of that teacher's life, most of the hearers joined the ranks of non-saints. They praised themselves, slandered others, indulged in the enjoyment of listening and the enjoyment of discipline, spoke inappropriately to others, and contemplated the faults related to what should and should not be done. To counteract these, the Buddha spoke words such as "My lineage and non-lineage." Regarding this, it can also be divided into two types: one is to show the antidote to speaking inappropriate words to others after the enjoyment of listening; the other is to show the antidote to indulging in the enjoyment of discipline and using it to contemplate the faults of others' actions and inactions. Among them, showing the antidote to speaking inappropriate words to others after the enjoyment of listening is, "My lineage and non-lineage, should be observed, as well as the disharmony of others," which is, "My lineage and non-lineage, should be observed."
