The five qualities of renunciation are: not letting the mind go to the objects of the five senses. Or, guarding one mind with another. Mindfulness is knowing what is appropriate to do and what is not, and then guarding it. One should strive to rejoice, which means to diligently and constantly abandon faults. How should one practice what the Blessed One has neither initially permitted nor prohibited? How should one remember the condensed meaning of the Vinaya Sutra, which comes from the minor sections of the Vinaya? Bhikshunis, what I have neither initially permitted nor prohibited, if it is in accordance with what is allowed and not in accordance with what is not allowed, you should think it is allowed and practice it in your mind. If it is in accordance with what is not allowed and not in accordance with what is allowed, you should think it is not allowed and abandon it in your mind. Thus it is said. The condensed meaning of the Pratimoksha, divided into eight aspects, the third of which, the meaning of collecting the objects of learning, has been explained. Here, the former customs are explained, which are also divided into two: explaining the Vinaya of the seven Buddhas, and indicating the source of these teachings as the sacred words of which teachers. Among them, explaining the Vinaya of the seven Buddhas, from "Patience is the supreme asceticism, patience is..." to "One will attain the path spoken by the sages." Ninety-one kalpas before this fortunate kalpa, when beings lived for eighty thousand years, a Buddha named Vipashyin appeared in the world. During the time of that teacher, the Shravakas practiced the asceticism of the non-Buddhists, they diligently practiced asceticism, and believed in the fruits of asceticism and the teaching of asceticism, believing that the old paths were purified by asceticism, and the new paths were not opened but blocked, like a ditch, so that there would be no defilements in the next life. Because there are no defilements, suffering ceases, and one can be liberated from sorrow, those who teach in this way are the true Shramanas, they believe in this teaching, and proclaim it to others. Because asceticism cannot eliminate afflictions, as its antidote: "Patience is the supreme asceticism, patience is the highest state of Nirvana, is the Buddha...
