Therefore, fighting and scolding, resentment and quarreling like this are called the cause of arguing without instruction. There are five causes of arguing from offenses: any of the five types of transgressions, from defeat to misdeeds. These five causes also arise not from speech and mind, but only from the body. For example, a person who has not taken full ordination mistakenly thinks that he has not gone out and falls asleep, or after falling asleep, someone comes later and sleeps in the same room, or after falling asleep, he is placed on a large bed. Like this, it arises not from body and mind, but only from action. For example, without thinking, one speaks more than six or seven words of Dharma to a man. There are also those that arise not only from action, but from both body and mind. For example, if a Bhikshuni cuts off the life of a being that has become an animal, just like killing it herself, she does not say to others, "Cut off the life of a being," but thinks in her heart, "It would be great if it were killed like this." Similarly, taking what is not given, engaging in impure conduct, and not speaking when drinking alcohol. There are also those that arise not from the body, but from both speech and mind. For example, as one considers, one speaks more than seven words of Dharma to a man. There are also those that arise from all three of body, speech, and mind. For example, killing, taking what is not given, engaging in impure conduct, drinking alcohol, and also praising these actions with words. There are one hundred and one causes of arguing from actions: twenty-four prayer actions, forty-seven prayer and two actions, and thirty prayer and four actions. This is called explaining the causes of those arguments. Arguing from discordant speech can also be called good, or it can be called bad, or it can be called not showing the doctrine. Whatever is done for the benefit of the Sangha, thinking of the benefit in one's heart, and fighting, scolding, resenting, and quarreling for the sake of good, that is called good. Whatever is not for the benefit of the Sangha, not thinking of the benefit in one's heart

And, fighting for the sake of non-virtue, etc., is called non-virtue. If it is neither for the purpose of the Sangha, nor for a non-purpose, nor thinking it is a purpose, nor not thinking it is a purpose, nor for the purpose of virtue, nor for the purpose of non-virtue, fighting, etc., is called not instructing. Just as there is no instruction for disputes of disagreement, disputes over offenses and disputes over actions should also be distinguished as virtuous, non-virtuous, and not instructing. For those who want to consider it virtuous, those who want to consider it non-virtuous, and those who do not want to consider either of the two, they should be combined and explained in order. This is called showing the distinction of these disputes as virtuous, etc. Among them, there are four types of disputes of disagreement: disagreement without dispute, agreement with dispute, disagreement with dispute, and agreement without dispute. Disagreement without dispute means that although there are different opinions, there is no fighting, scolding, or resentment. Agreement with dispute means that there are disputes without instruction, and disputes over offenses and actions, but there is no dispute of disagreement. Disagreement with dispute means that for the Sangha, speaking differently, creating confusion and disharmony, being disrespectful, being inconsistent, and therefore fighting, scolding, and resenting. Agreement without dispute means situations other than those mentioned above. Here, the so-called dispute of disagreement refers to the third situation. Because there is no instruction, there are also four types of disputes: no dispute without instruction, dispute with instruction, neither instruction nor dispute, and both instruction and no dispute. Among them, no dispute without instruction means that the Sangha is not allowed to give instruction, and there is no instruction, there is fighting, etc., but there is no dispute. Dispute with instruction means that there are disputes of disagreement, and disputes over offenses and actions, but because there is instruction, there is no dispute. Neither instruction nor dispute means that the Sangha is not allowed to give instruction, and there is no instruction, and because instruction is not allowed, there is fighting, scolding, resentment, and confusion.
