One who sits on a high seat should sit on a low seat and be taught not to teach the Dharma, up to this point. Similarly, when walking on the road, one should walk on the side of the road and teach the Dharma. The Buddha said: When walking on the road, one should walk on the side of the road and not teach the Dharma to those who are not sick, up to this point. Similarly, when walking in front, one should walk from behind and teach the Dharma. The Buddha said: Do not walk from behind and teach the Dharma to those who are not sick and walking in front, up to this point. Then, from teaching the Dharma to the twelve goddesses and others who cover their heads, the Buddha said: Do not teach the Dharma to those who are not sick and cover their heads. From the one with eye disease coming, the Buddha said: Teach the Dharma to the sick, up to this point. Similarly, do not teach the Dharma to those who wear hats. From then on, some elephant-riding soldiers requested to hear the Dharma, and they replied that they would preach. They said, "Enemies will come one after another to kill us." The Blessed One instructed, "One may preach the Dharma to the sick." Similarly, one may preach the Dharma to those riding horses, sitting on any vehicle, or wearing high boots. The Blessed One instructed, "One should teach not to preach the Dharma to those riding horses, sitting on vehicles, sitting on conveyances, or wearing high boots," until the instruction to preach to the paralyzed and the sick. Then, the twelve goddesses were preaching the Dharma while holding staffs. The Blessed One instructed, "One should not preach the Dharma to those holding staffs," until the instruction to preach to the sick and old women who cannot walk without canes. Similarly, they were preaching the Dharma to those holding umbrellas, etc. The Blessed One instructed, "One should teach not to preach the Dharma to those holding umbrellas, holding weapons, or wearing armor," until the instruction to preach to the sick and those going to fight enemies. The twelve goddesses were urinating and defecating while standing. One should teach not to urinate and defecate while standing, and a precept was established. Since the sick cannot sit, it was permitted for the sick. The origin of the story is in Shravasti. Spomdaga saw her laundress and said, "Alas, if I had not ordained, what would you call me?" She said, "I would call you mistress." "Then why don't you wash my Dharma robes? Your ordination and my work are not the same thing." Therefore, she refused to wash them. Spomdaga, in order to harm her, drank a purgative, filled a jar, and poured it into the pool where the clothes were washed. From then on, when the laundress washed clothes there, all the clothes smelled bad and became unpleasant. Spomdaga came there and said, "Alas, lady of the interior, what is wrong with your clothes, the smell is so fragrant?" She said, "Did the holy mother not do it? Miser, you are doing this to make me unhappy." The nuns were thus ridiculed, and a precept was established. One should not urinate or defecate in the water, and
