One is liberated by the boundaries taught by (someone). Acts of killing should not occur; this should be done diligently. What is the conduct of a follower practitioner? A follower practitioner should not be too far from the preceding practitioner, nor should they be too close. They should not walk shoulder to shoulder. Even when entering a house, they should not suddenly speak to them; they should speak from outside. They should do what is instructed. They should be respectful, humble, and be in a state of fear. If the preceding practitioner speaks what is not Dharma, they should refute it; if they speak according to the Dharma, they should rejoice. If they receive gains that are in accordance with the Dharma, they should accept them. This is called the conduct of a follower practitioner. What is the conduct of approaching a village? A monk who enters a house should not be arrogant, should not generate pride, should not be unstable, should not speak randomly, should not be disrespectful, should understand correctly, should maintain mindfulness, should not be distracted, should be joyful, should have graceful conduct, should be very restrained, should be very concealed, should have a soft voice, should not be distracted, should be like a yoke, should not be distracted, should be respectful, should be humble, should be with (restraint), should be in a state of fear, should be with (restraint), should be humble in mind, should have a mind like a whisk. One should not desire gains and respect. Doing what is beneficial is called the conduct of approaching a village. What is the conduct of approaching to walk? If a monk wants to go to a village, they should walk knowingly, should maintain mindfulness, should not be distracted, should restrain the senses, should not be distracted, should maintain awareness of before and after, should maintain awareness of above and below. If a bhikkhu goes to a village while losing mindfulness, one should also understand five kinds of faults: looking outward at women, developing from looking to talking, from talking to attachment, from attachment to non-virtuous attention, thereby engaging in impure conduct in disbelief, causing sin to arise, or abandoning the training and falling. If one enters the village as abiding in mindfulness, such faults will not occur, this is called the act of approaching the village. What is the act of approaching the village? A bhikkhu who has approached the village should not speak various idle talks, should not speak contradictory words, should speak Dharma, should not interrupt the conversation, should correctly show the Dharma to householders, should exhort and correctly praise, should make them very happy, should make them truly believe, should guide them to take refuge, uphold the basis of training, abide in the eight-limbed fast, abide in celibacy, giving, taming, correctly guarding, attending to holy persons, listening to the holy Dharma, attending to it properly, diligently practicing the Dharma that is in accordance with the Dharma, from the non-path, one should truly proclaim the right path, one should purify wisdom and views, this is called the act of approaching the village. What is the act of an elder who has approached the village? An elder bhikkhu who has approached the village should there exhort the new bhikkhus, should teach accordingly, in any way not let them be arrogant, proud, bodily defiled, playful, should guide them towards happiness, should not guide them into the restraint of all conduct. They should also listen to the words of how he exhorts and teaches accordingly, this is called the act of an elder who has approached the village. What is the act of abiding? A bhikkhu who abides in the dwelling should maintain a radiant face, without anger, present mindfulness.
