"The vessel of precepts, the jewel, should be distinguished in the assembly of the noble ones." Thus it is said. This shows the excellence of individual liberation by what is taught, what is taught, and to whom it is taught. What is taught, that is, should be distinguished in the assembly of those to whom it is taught, as it is shown. Among them, what is taught? It is said that the teacher teaches by the name "all-knowing one," as in the previous meaning of the words. What is taught? It is individual liberation, which is taught by the name "vessel of precepts, the jewel." Precepts are the nature of abandoning killing and so on. Base is the word, because its meaning dwells in it. Jewel is the base of precepts itself, because it is the cause of the great ones, and because it is rare, it is like a jewel, therefore it is a jewel. What is it? It is the distinctions, the base, the later text, the branches, and so on. Vessel is the vessel of those, this very Sutra of Individual Liberation. This is the vessel of precepts, the jewel, of the all-knowing teacher. To whom is it taught? It is to the Sangha of the Hearers, which is taught by the name "assembly of the noble ones." Noble ones are those who are far from sinful and unwholesome dharmas. Assembly is four or more. What is taught by whom, that is, should be distinguished in the assembly of those to whom it is taught, that is, the Individual Liberation taught by the teacher should be distinguished in the Sangha of the Hearers, which is taught by the name "should be distinguished in the middle." Middle means inside. Distinguish means to recite. By whom is it recited and distinguished? By the assembly of the noble ones. For example, when a vessel of jewels is distinguished, it is also distinguished in the assembly by those who know jewels. Likewise, this vessel of precepts, the jewel, of the all-knowing one, is also distinguished and recited in the assembly of the noble ones by those who know the base of precepts like a jewel, this is the concluding word. The nature of offering has been explained. After that, the nature of initiating speech should be explained. The nature of initiating speech is the perfect composition of the Sutra of Individual Liberation.

The initiation of exhortation. That is, after hearing the greatness of individual liberation, wanting the path of the Sangha to have fruit, it is necessary to initiate the exhortation to practice individual liberation. Therefore, eleven verses such as "The Buddhas' discipline is like a great ocean" were spoken. Here, too, what is to be expressed by these eleven verses, the need, the connection, and the need for the need are to be stated. What is to be expressed is the greatness of individual liberation. The need is understanding. The connection is that understanding is also done by this initiation of exhortation. Therefore, the method of the verses of initiation of exhortation and the need, these two characteristics arising from the method are related. The need for the need is that after hearing the greatness of individual liberation, wanting the path of the Sangha to have fruit, one practices individual liberation. The condensed meaning of these eleven verses is threefold: stating the greatness of individual liberation, making the path of the Sangha fruitful, and practicing individual liberation. Stating the greatness of individual liberation is also threefold: the fruit of this life, the fruit of future lives, and praising individual liberation like praising the teacher. Among them, the fruit of this life is shown by three verses such as "The Buddhas' discipline is like a great ocean." The fruit of future lives is shown by two verses such as "From the cycle of existence deeper than the ocean." One verse such as "When I have passed into Nirvana" shows praising individual liberation like praising the teacher. Making the path of the Sangha fruitful is also threefold: the path of the Sangha is rare, the path of the Sangha is easily obtained, and one should be diligent after obtaining the path of the Sangha. Among them, two verses such as "This sound called Buddha" show that the path of the Sangha is rare. One verse such as "When Buddhas appear in the world" shows that the path of the Sangha is easily obtained. One verse such as "Wishing well for the wise" shows that one should be diligent after obtaining the path of the Sangha.
