“Transcending” is said. “Suffering” refers to the five aggregates of clinging, which are encompassed by birth, aging, sickness, and death. “Ocean” refers to suffering itself being like an ocean, hence it is called an ocean, because it is extremely vast. “Bottomless” refers to the foundation having no bottom, which, like the ocean, demonstrates the multitude of suffering. “Endless” refers to having no far shore, which, like the ocean, demonstrates the unceasing continuation of samsara. “Transcending” refers to transcending from that, because abandoning afflictions, suffering ceases. Thus, by abandoning all afflictions characterized by karma, afflictions, and birth, it demonstrates the distinction of the greatness of perfect self-benefit, which is perfection. Empowered by the perfection of wisdom, it is said, “To the leader of beings.” “Beings” refers to the world constantly revolving. “Leader” refers to being unparalleled, because it is supreme. “To” refers to the leader being the Buddha Bhagavan, because having attained wisdom without attachment or obstruction to all knowable things, he has become the leader of all beings. This shows that by understanding how many things exist and how they truly are, through becoming the leader of beings, the distinction of the greatness of perfect self-benefit, which is the perfection of wisdom, is demonstrated. Thus, these demonstrate the qualities of the leader, the Buddha Bhagavan, through the means of perfect benefit for others and perfect benefit for oneself, showing the offering of praise to the teacher. After that, in order to show offering through the means of prostration, it is said, “Prostrating with the head.” “With the head” directly shows prostration with the body, while “prostrating” is regarded as encompassing prostration with body, speech, and mind. This shows that through the means of prostrating with body, speech, and mind, offering to the teacher is demonstrated. Having prostrated in this way, what should be done? In order to show that one should vow to begin writing the Pratimoksha.
