To abide in a solitary place, to have much learning, to possess realization, to possess subsequent compassion, to have a mind that is completely free from sorrow, to possess patience, to possess fearlessness, and to possess the activity of speech. What is it to listen to and contemplate the sacred Dharma? It is to uphold the words and meanings of the Dharma taught by the Buddha and the Buddha's disciples, which belongs to the scriptures, the twelve branches, and is contained within the three baskets, to go alone to a solitary place, to abandon inconceivable places, and to contemplate those Dharmas that have been heard, in terms of their own characteristics and general characteristics, in the manner of enumeration, in the manner of enumerating the Dharmas, and to contemplate in the manner of measurement, in the manner of examining the qualities and faults with wisdom. What is it to be without obstacles? It is to be without obstacles that depend on the inner and obstacles that depend on the outer. Among these, the obstacles that depend on the inner are: because one has not previously performed meritorious deeds, the circumstances of the necessities of life do not occur at the right time, and greed, hatred, and delusion are strong and prolonged, and because one has previously created the karma of becoming ill, one becomes ill, and because one has acted improperly in this life, the wind, bile, and phlegm in one's body become disturbed and accumulated, and food is difficult to digest, meanings are numerous, affairs are numerous, words are numerous, one likes to work, one likes to speak, one likes to sleep, one likes to joke, one likes to be noisy, one is extremely attached to oneself, one is not dependent, one is careless, one is born in a bad place, and things that are similar to this. The obstacles that depend on the outer are: relying on non-holy beings, and not being able to obtain timely advice and instruction that is in accordance with them, and dwelling in a bad place, where there are many disturbing and unpleasant things during the day, and at night people are always making sounds, noisy and clamorous, the touch of the sun is cold and hot, fear from humans and non-humans, and things that are similar to this. Furthermore, there are three kinds of obstacles: the obstacles of application, the obstacles of extreme solitude, and the obstacles of truly abiding within.

Now, non-existence is non-obstruction. What is giving and exchanging? It is giving a faultless gift in order to obtain the adornment of the mind, the implements of the mind, the assembly of yoga, and the supreme meaning. Now, who gives? To whom is it given? What is given? With what is it given? How is it given? And for what is it given? What makes that giving faultless? Who gives? The giver and the patron give. To whom should it be given? It is given to four: the suffering, the helpful, the beloved, and the special. What is given? Things that are considered sentient beings and things that are not considered sentient beings are given. With what is it given? It is given with the mind that is manifestly active, that is, with the mind that possesses no karmic obscurations, and with the actions of body and speech that arise from oneself and others in order to completely relinquish the object of giving. How is it given? It is given with faith that looks to the future and sees the result, with reverence given with a mind of faith, given from one's own hand without contempt, given at a time when others do not need it, given in accordance with the Dharma and impartially, well accomplished without harming others, given purely, kindly, sacredly, and appropriately, given by clearing away the stain of miserliness and the stain of hoarding, and rejoicing in mind even before giving, having great faith even at the time of giving, and becoming without regret even after giving. For what is it given? It is given out of compassion for the suffering, to repay the helpful, out of love, respect, and affection for the beloved, and out of a desire for the special to attain the special qualities of this world and beyond. What makes that giving
