Depending on sentient beings, even if one robs for the sake of subduing the abbot and teacher's abandonment, there is no fault. Letters and gestures, and passing from one to another, a monk who is mentally disturbed, afflicted by illness, a madman, a fool, a deaf person, a mute, a heretic, a nun, a novice, a female novice, a female lay devotee, even if clothes are given and then robbed, in all cases it will become a transgression. The beginning of the story of the last month of autumn is that the Blessed One was residing in Sravasti. At that time, a householder built a monastery in a village in a rocky mountain, and arranged for the living necessities of sixty monks, placing them in the monastery. Later, that householder also passed away. His son also did not provide for the monks' livelihood, so the other monks dispersed. Among them, two elderly monks lived by begging and resided in the monastery. At that time, some merchants from the north arrived in that area. The merchants asked the two monks what the situation was like here, and the two monks explained in detail that the patron had died and the son had not provided for their livelihood. Then, the faithful merchants gave the two monks the provisions for sixty monks for three months of summer, and instructed the merchants to invite the monks. One elderly monk went to Sravasti to invite them, and met Nanda at the gate. There, the monk said that the patron had arranged for their livelihood in this way and was inviting the monks. Nanda, fearing that others would go there, devised a plan, saying: The monks who live here are all supported by the king as patrons, and their lives are very prosperous. Who would go to your place? You must have come to steal monks. If others hear about it, you will be expelled. He threatened them in this way, but still drove them away. Later, the group of six monks arrived with their retinue and entered the later summer retreat in a proper manner. They divided the three months' worth of summer supplies and used them up in one month, and then left, so later

Those people came to the monastery and said to the two old monks: Which monks have been invited here? It was said to be the Six Groups of Monks. Did they enter the vast ocean and come back with jewel ornaments? Are the other monks not there? The Six Groups of Monks therefore did not believe. Dividing the three months' supplies into one month's use, they disbelieved and ridiculed, so it was reported, and henceforth, before three months had passed, it was forbidden to receive and distribute the rainy season's offerings ahead of time. Then, King Bright King appointed Minister and Army Leader Ka Adashakti as the army leader and sent him to other places. He offered many compliant lifetime offerings to the Sangha. The monks, thinking it was not the time to receive and distribute, did not accept. After reporting, they praised their respect for the precepts and their diligence in upholding them, and then allowed them to receive the offerings obtained from the ten-day offering. Therefore, it was forbidden to receive and distribute ahead of time. The monks received the offerings ahead of time and then hid them in the storehouse, and as a result, the cloths rotted. After this situation was reported, a monk with five qualities who could store clothes was appointed, and it was also forbidden to receive during the rainy season, and it was also forbidden to receive after the time for distributing offerings had passed, thereby establishing the rules for learning the precepts. The so-called "last month of autumn, less than ten days of offering" refers to the situation arising from the ten-day offering. The so-called monk refers to the Six Groups of Monks, that is, those who have entered this Dharma. The so-called offering refers to things from others. The so-called delivered offering refers to the five types of donated offerings: given by the sick, given for being sick, given at the time of death, given for death, and given for travel. The so-called "if you want" refers to distributing offerings. The so-called offering refers to any of the seven types. The so-called "bring it" refers to for oneself. The so-called "after receiving, store it until the time for distributing robes has not arrived" refers to placing the delivered offering in the hands of the one who stores the clothes. The so-called time for offering, what time is not the time? If asked, a dwelling that has not been sewn well arises from the bedding offering of the last month of autumn.
