The teachings of 'Phya-bas: If the alms bowl is broken, mend it, sew it up! It is forbidden to seek another bowl until it has five patches. Furthermore, the term 'bhikshu' means one who delights in intimacy; others are similar to this. 'An alms bowl with fewer than five patches' means not having five patches. 'Even though it is still usable' means it is permissible to use. 'Seeking another alms bowl' means seeking a second alms bowl. 'Sarpa' means there are two kinds of sarpa: sarpa by means of sarpa, and sarpa by means of attainment. Here, it refers to both kinds of sarpa. 'Tshol' means to seek. 'Because one desires the good' means desiring something better than before. 'If that alms bowl is obtained' means it is found. 'That bhikshu' means that very bhikshu. 'That alms bowl should be distributed to the Sangha assembly' means that the alms bowl should be taken from the one with the worst bowl in that assembly of bhikshus and given to him. The bhikshu who has an extra good alms bowl should be appointed through solicitation and action. That bhikshu, holding the alms bowl, should praise the qualities of the alms bowl among the elders and the new bhikshus in order of seniority, saying, 'If you desire this, take it,' and should distribute it to the first elder. If he does not desire it, it should be distributed to the second and third. Whoever takes the good alms bowl should exchange his bad alms bowl for one from the elders and forcibly give it to the new bhikshu. The penalty for a bhikshu holding an extra alms bowl is that the worst alms bowl of all the Sangha should be given to that bhikshu, and even if that alms bowl is given, it should not be blessed, nor given to another, nor sent to another, but should be used slowly and carefully until it is completely broken, thus it is said. The penalty that is in accordance with that is this. That bhikshu should also have two alms bowls, and in the better bowl he should put the unpatched alms bowl, and in the bad bowl he should put the blessed alms bowl. When going for alms and walking, he should carry both of them, and if he finds dry food, he should pour it into the unpatched bowl, and if he finds wet food, he should pour it into the blessed bowl. That alms bowl should be kept for as long as he lives; that is the penalty.

A Nissaggiya Pacittiya is confessed by relinquishing the item. If a monk's bowl is usable and has not been patched with five patches, and he seeks another bowl, he commits a Dukkata while seeking. If he obtains it, he commits a Nissaggiya Pacittiya. The story of having a non-relative weaver weave cloth is that the Blessed One was dwelling in Savatthi. At that time, Bhikkhu Nandaka thought, 'The householder Anathapindika does not allow begging, and the rules are very strict, so the offerings received are very few. Now that I have received a little, I should accumulate it.' So he climbed onto the roof and looked. He saw about five hundred widows spinning cotton at the east gate of Jeta's Grove, and Bhikkhu Nandaka went to them. One woman bowed to him, but the others did not. Bhikkhu Nandaka said, 'The other women have not planted the seeds for the next life, but only this woman has planted the seeds for the next life.' The women asked, 'What is that like?' He taught them the Dharma, and they developed faith and said they would offer the Noble One something. Bhikkhu Nandaka said, 'Please offer a meal to the Buddha and his retinue.' They said, 'That is not possible.' 'Then invite the Group of Six monks.' They said, 'That is also not possible.' 'Then, can you offer me about half a tael of thread?' They said, 'That is possible.' So everyone collected it and gave it to him, and since two of them were skilled at spinning, he entrusted it to them both to spin. After the thread was spun, he took it to the weaver Spyer to weave, but he did not weave it. He taught him the Dharma, and his wife allowed him to accept it and weave it. Later, when he asked for the wages, he did not give them. Later, he obtained more thread and entrusted it to Spyer to weave, but because he had not given the previous wages, the latter was also not woven. So he went to the craftsman. He said to the craftsman, 'Is it not possible to have another weaver weave it?' Bhikkhu Nandaka thought, 'Spyer is also very skilled, but he did not weave it before, and there is also resentment, so it is not possible to entrust it to Spyer.' He repeatedly pleaded with the craftsman. Finally, he took responsibility for delivering the thread himself, and in his own name, he asked the craftsman to stop him.
