Saying, "A bhikkhu needs almsbowls"; Saying, "One is enough"; Scoffing, "The Sakyan renunciates are tormented by desire." This happened, but no precept was laid down at that time. Later, when the Blessed One was dwelling at Sravasti, the group of six bhikkhus acquired many almsbowls, accumulating those that they had obtained, neither using them themselves nor giving them to others to use. Having heard of this, the Blessed One rebuked the group of six bhikkhus, and they replied, "Yes." The Blessed One rebuked them, saying, "This is not the conduct of a bhikkhu, it is not proper," and laid down the precept that leftover almsbowls should not be kept for more than ten days. The term "bhikkhu" refers to the group of six, and others like them. The term "leftover almsbowl" refers to what is left over after consecration. The term "to keep" refers to possessing it for ten days. The term "to keep beyond that" refers to exceeding ten days. "Relinquishment and expiation" means that having relinquished the item, the offense must be confessed. What constitutes an offense? If a bhikkhu obtains a leftover almsbowl on the first day of the month, he should consecrate it within ten days, or send it to another, or give it to another. If he has not sent it or given it to another within that time, or has not relinquished the community and has not consecrated it later, then at dawn on the eleventh day, it becomes an offense of relinquishment. If a bhikkhu should relinquish that leftover almsbowl but does not relinquish it, and does not confess the offense, then from that time on, all the requisites will become offenses of relinquishment due to the previous cause. There is no offense in keeping an almsbowl for more than ten days if another bhikkhu has entrusted the almsbowl. Keeping an almsbowl that is too large, too small, unbaked, or white is a misdeed. There is no offense if a bhikkhu is insane and the ten days have passed. Through messages, letters, gestures, or passing it from one to another, keeping a leftover almsbowl for more than ten days is a misdeed. Even if there is only one almsbowl, there is a case where it becomes an offense of relinquishment, which is keeping an unconsecrated almsbowl. There is no offense in keeping it on the first day if he dies within ten days. Even though there is an almsbowl that can be used, seeking a better one

The reason for not allowing the search for good bowls is that the Blessed One was staying in Shravasti. At that time, a incense-selling boy was living there. He happened to have a good, usable bowl. That boy didn't want to sell the bowl to a monk who came to beg for alms the next day. He said, "If the monks living in Jeta Grove want to buy a bowl, leave it there." That monk also told the monks that there was such a bowl. Delight heard it, and because he suspected that others would do it, in order not to let others hear it, he said, "Do you only do such things, are you lazy?" After that, there was no one else, so he approached him and asked which house he was in, and when it was time for the transaction, Delight strode away. The incense-selling boy also knew that it was the group of six monks, so he hid the bowl. Delight saw it, picked up the bowl, and said happily, "May you be healthy and free from illness, and may this generosity accomplish the adornment of your heart, the utensils of your heart, the collection of yoga, and the highest meaning, and become the benefit of gods and humans." Although you, the Holy One, have said a lot, but do not give priceless things. Delight and a merchant friend went there and bowed to Delight. Delight said, "What are you doing to me with your dry hands? If you finish my business and leave, it may be helpful." The merchant said, "Then what should I do? Buy that bowl and give it to me, it may be helpful." He also bought it and gave it to Delight. Delight took the bowl and showed off the good bowl to others. A young monk said, "Venerable, it is appropriate to beg from others even though you have a good bowl?" The other monks also said, "That's true." After hearing the sound of ridicule, it was stipulated that it was not allowed to search for good bowls. In this way, it is not allowed to search for good bowls. A begging monk's bowl was broken, and the rice soup leaked out. Many bees gathered, and the Brahmin's sons said, "Like merchants and leaders, surrounded by many relatives."
