Then this is very narrow. That is extremely broad, abandoning the former and only making new seating, so there are many things and actions. The aspect of virtue declines, and after the monks reported it, the Blessed One rebuked the difficulty of taming with various names, praised contentment and the merit of loving practice, saying: The old seating should be used by the monk for six years. If one makes another new seating before six years have passed, one commits a Nissaggiya Pacittiya offense. This is a training rule prescribed in the Vinaya. Among them, the basis for allowing the making of new seating before six years have passed is: The Blessed One was staying in the good pasture of the Cowherd's Birthplace. At that time, the wind was strong in that pasture, and the monks who were working could not use the seating for six years, and it became worn out, so they stopped working. After reporting this situation, any monk who is working, if he cannot use the seating for six years, and wants to make new seating within six years, should request the Sangha for acceptance. The Sangha also cannot properly inspect the seating, and through the ritual of request and supplication, grants the acceptance of making new seating within six years. There are two types of so-called new seating: newly made and newly obtained. Here, it refers to newly made. The so-called monk refers to many monks, and others are similar to this. The so-called seating refers to something that is sewn. The so-called making refers to something done by oneself and others. The so-called unwillingly means to use it for six years without faith. The so-called old seating refers to the old one from before. Whether one abandons it or not, making new seating means making a second new one. The so-called excluding the Sangha's permission refers to using it. The so-called Nissaggiya Pacittiya offense refers to confessing the offense after abandoning the item. If a monk makes seating in a certain year, and in that same year makes a second seating, he commits a Dukkata offense. If it is completed, it is a Nissaggiya Pacittiya offense. If the seating is made but not completed, and it is abandoned, it is a Dukkata offense. If a monk, through information, letters, gestures, or for the sake of others, causes someone to make seating within six years, he commits a Dukkata offense. The reason is permissible, but the type is not permissible, there are two types.

If it is done improperly, it becomes a sin of wrongdoing. Causing those in a place of thieves, those living separately, non-Buddhists, and those living in other paths to do it becomes a sin of wrongdoing. The origin of patching a new seat cushion with an old span is that the Blessed One was residing in Shravasti. At that time, in Shravasti, the son of King Shuddhodana, named the Wheel-Turning King, renounced his kingdom and went forth, subdued the four maras, and attained unsurpassed wisdom. The sound that he appeared in the central region was spread everywhere. When the merchants of the north heard this, those merchants came there to attend to and worship the Buddha and to pay homage. Then, Anathapindika led those merchants, prostrated to the Buddha, and returned to the monks' residence. The monks were meditating during the day, and the monks were sitting cross-legged on the cushions during the day. Because it was so worn out, Anathapindika said to the merchants, and the merchants developed faith and offered five hundred pieces of cloth as material for cushions. The monks threw the old cushions outside without covering them. After the monks went to the town to teach the Dharma, the Blessed One wanted to arrange the bedding and went to the temple. He saw many cushions piled up in the broom closet and rebuked them, saying, "The householders and Brahmins exhaust their flesh and blood to give to the monks, but the monks use them immoderately." He praised the virtues of practice and moderation, and in order to make the new cushions strong and not worn out, and not to be attached to good cushions, he prescribed a training rule to patch the new ones with an old span. "New" has two aspects: made and acquired new. Here, it refers to the made new. "Cushion" refers to bedding. "Monk" refers to one who has entered this Dharma. "To do" refers to oneself and others. "To all old bedding" means that if there is another new cushion, do it that way. "The Sugata's span" means that the Sugata is the teacher.
