If one takes blue, yellow, and red colors, and if it is made in that way, it is to be abandoned. If one asks for a five-cubit length up to fifty cubits and it is made, it is to be abandoned. If one does not obtain more than what was asked for, there is no downfall, it is a minor offense. Asking through messengers and letters, and asking from a mad householder, one who is mentally disturbed, one who is afflicted by illness, a fool, a mute, a deaf person, one who is asleep, an external heretic, and one who is in another state, it becomes a minor offense. It is a minor offense if one cannot spin the material of the cloth oneself, if one cannot use the material that can be spun, and if both are not allowed. The reason for allowing the asking for an upper garment and a lower skirt is that the Buddha, the Bhagavan, was residing in Shravasti. At that time, the attendant Nanda used to ask from non-relatives at inappropriate times. Now, the protectorless almsgiver forbade asking from male householders, so the gains were very few. Then the monks of Pata came to Shravasti, and on the way, robbers robbed them of their upper garments and lower skirts, so it was allowed to ask for them. The group of six monks deceived these monks of Pata, told the monks of Pata, and exchanged with the group of six monks and their entourage of sixty people. Even in the house of each non-relative householder, down to the king and queen Phrengdenma, they asked for thirteen pieces of clothing. After asking them for thirteen complete sets of utensils and settling down, the group of six monks chose nine good clothes and took them away. They gave all the bad scraps to the monks of Pata and had them sew and settle down. When the monks said, "What is it that you have obtained so many clothes?" and explained in detail what had happened, after reporting it, they rebuked the monks of Pata, saying, "Now it is wrong to ask immoderately." Now, even if the time is ripe, if one asks for more than an upper garment and a lower skirt, it is a downfall to be abandoned, thus establishing the training. The monk's clothes being taken by a thief means being robbed by a deceitful person. Clothes being lost means being lost or forgotten and lost. Fire, water, and wind are actually exhausted. Non-relatives and the materials of clothes, etc.
