A man, feeling aroused by a woman, ran away and chased after her. On the way, semen was released, and seeing his desire subside, the woman returned. Then, he entrusted the clothes to that woman to wash. The woman took the semen and put it into her vagina, which later hardened into a lump, and a child was born. The non-believers mocked and made unpleasant noises, requesting, 'If the wound is exposed, it would be terrible.' And they condemned it as unreasonable and improper. Furthermore, a Bhikshu is called a 'revealer,' and others are similar to this. 'Non-relatives' refers to those within seven generations of parents as relatives, and beyond seven generations are not relatives. A Bhikshuni refers to someone who has entered that Dharma. 'Old clothes' refers to something that will not cause offense to Sarpa, so it is called old. 'Clothes' refers to those made of wool, or made of Shana bark, or made of Zarma bark, or made of Kapok, or made of Dugu grass, or made of Kopala grass wool, or made of silk, any of these seven types. 'Washing' refers to even just soaking in water. 'Boiling' refers to even just soaking in dye. 'Rubbing' refers to even just patting off dust. 'The downfall of abandonment' refers to abandoning the object and then confessing the downfall. If one entrusts something while doubting whether they are a relative or not, it becomes a minor offense. Entrusting to a Bhikshuni who is not a relative, there are also cases where it does not lead to a downfall. Entrusting through messages and letters, as well as gestures, passing it on from one to another, as well as entrusting to a mad Bhikshuni, a mentally disturbed Bhikshuni, a Bhikshuni afflicted by illness, a foolish Bhikshuni, a mute Bhikshuni, a deaf Bhikshuni, all of these will result in a minor offense. Or entrusting to a hermaphrodite, parents, someone who has killed an Arhat, someone who has drawn blood from the Buddha with malicious intent, a heretic, someone living in a thief's dwelling, someone not living in a thief's dwelling, someone who has quarreled before, someone who has committed offenses before, all of these will result in a minor offense. The Sangha's clothes, or those that have already been washed, or those that are jointly owned, or those entrusted for the sake of others, all of these will result in a minor offense. Entrusting washing to someone who creates discord in the Sangha, someone who follows someone who creates discord in the Sangha, someone who gives precepts, will result in a downfall of abandonment. And entrusting to a woman living in another place, and to a practitioner.

If entrusted to my mother, a heretic, or a married woman, everything will become a fault. The origin of acceptance is that the Buddha, the Bhagavan, was dwelling in Jeta Grove in Shravasti. At that time, the nuns were allowed to reside in monasteries. The bhikkhuni Utpalavarna and about five hundred bhikkhuni attendants went to the Lambaka Grove to meditate during the day. The bhikkhuni attendants thought that Utpalavarna came by means of miraculous powers like a abbess, so they left her there and returned to their respective residences. She alone entered into a state of tranquility and remained. That night, some wild men came. They also developed faith and filled a piece of fine cloth with eye ointment, placed it before her, and left. The next day, she took the cloth and eye ointment to Jeta Monastery to offer. The attendant Ananda was wandering at the gate of the monastery, so he gave the eye ointment to the person in charge of cleaning and left. Later, Utpalavarna went to prostrate at the feet of the Bhagavan. The Bhagavan said to Ananda, 'Have the nuns who are dwelling here during the rainy season not received offerings of clothing?' The venerable one replied, 'They have received, but this sister is naturally virtuous, and whatever she receives, she offers to the Three Jewels. Today she received a piece of fine cloth, which was also taken away by the attendant Ananda.' The Bhagavan said, 'Can a bhikkhuni accept clothes from a non-relative?' The venerable one replied, 'Yes, even if it is a relative, one only generates the thought of giving. For a non-relative, whether the five robes are complete or not, one accepts whatever one receives.' The Bhagavan ordered that Dharma robes be taken from the treasury of the vast city and given to the bhikkhuni Utpalavarna. Because such a thing happened, the precept was established that a bhikkhu should not accept from a non-relative, and these are the fundamental words. 'Except for stating' means that in Shravasti there lived a faithful couple. For the provisions for the next life, etc., the husband invited the Sangha and offered each one a piece of clothing. The wife offered food and a set of clothes. The bhikkhunis received the value of the clothes.
