After performing the actions of, and changing colors, etc., they were placed in buckets and entrusted to the monks residing in the monastery. The monks residing in the monastery also did things like drying clothes, collecting and hiding them, which became obstacles to measuring and reading. We monks who travel around also wear only single robes and skirts to barely walk, and the clothes do not cover completely, which makes us look undignified. Therefore, it was also stipulated that monks should not be separated from their Dharma robes. Regarding the permission: When the Blessed One was residing in Rajagriha (6th to 5th century BC), Mahakasyapa lived in a cave in the great monastery of Rajagriha. He performed the Posadha on the fifteenth and fourteenth of each month together with the Sangha of Rajagriha. Later, during the Posadha on the fifteenth, Mahakasyapa went to attend the Posadha, and the river flooded during the rainy season, and the sewn Dharma robes and so on were also wetted. He took a long, dry thing and wiped the place of the Posadha. After this was spread, Kasyapa was old and frail, and Shariputra suffered from wind disease, etc., and requested permission not to be separated from the Dharma robes, and to grant the precepts of the Sangha. The so-called "removing the sewing thread of the Dharma robe" is the same as what was said before. "One night" means passing one night, and dawn will rise and commit a transgression. "Three Dharma robes" refers to the sewn Dharma robe, the seven-piece robe, and the five-piece robe. "The Dharma robe is elsewhere, and the monk is inside the boundary, and dawn rises and commits a Nissaggiya Pacittiya offense. After the Sangha blesses the Dharma robe, if it leaves the boundary for one night, it should confess the offense. The actual object of the clothing does not need to be discarded. The Dharma robe is placed outside the boundary, and the monk is inside the boundary, or the monk is in the sky, and the Dharma robe is on the ground, and if it is separated by dawn in between, it will commit a Nissaggiya Pacittiya offense. If a monk lives in a single household, and all the Dharma robes are placed inside, or in an unclean place within one cubit outside the house, he will not commit a Nissaggiya Pacittiya offense. Or the grinding stone and flour mill of that house, as well as the place where children eat, and drink

Those dwelling places are my residence, even if dawn breaks inside, it will not become an offense of abandonment. Having placed the monastic robe inside or in the residence, if one resides elsewhere, it becomes an offense. The same applies to the second village. If one resides in a village surrounded by wooden fences, then having placed the monastic robe within the entire interior and up to one fathom outside, and I myself am inside, it will not become an offense. Beyond that, it is an offense. In a dwelling surrounded by walls, within one fathom inside and outside, or where the dust can reach the eyes of a walking cow, or within the excrement and urine where humans naturally know shame, that is the residence, and it will not be separated. Beyond that, it will be separated. A place surrounded by ditches is the residence itself, and it will not be separated. What is one residence in one village? It is a temple, a gathering place, a garden, placing the monastic robe in the residence, or placing the monastic robe in the temple, one will not commit an offense. Residing elsewhere will result in an offense. In a house with one door shared by many brothers, the door itself is the residence, and residing in the village or residence will not lead to abandonment. A monk on the road will not be separated within forty-nine cubits. The surrounding fathom of standing, sitting, and lying down is the boundary. If one lies down within the boundary, as soon as the body separates, it becomes an offense. The offense committed by a monk is the same for a nun and a novice. A monk, a nun, and a female novice will commit a minor offense. The origin of placing robes and so on is that the Buddha, the Bhagavan, was residing in Shravasti. At that time, the monks obtained many such robes, blue, yellow, red, thin, and thick, etc., but even having obtained the robes, they were not used, thinking, 'When will we obtain such robes?' With hope and so on, they kept them for more than a month, so the monks reported to the Buddha, criticizing them as being greedy, insatiable, and difficult to support, and praising the virtues of those who love learning and are content with little desire, and then established the precepts. Again, the word 'monk' is the root word. The monk takes the monastic robe and pulls out the peg.
